School awarded for pro­vid­ing qual­ity phys­i­cal ed­u­ca­tion

St. An­thony’s con­tin­ues to de­liver qual­ity phys­i­cal ed­u­ca­tion for its stu­dents and was once again hon­oured for this ef­fort.

The school was pre­sented with the 2015-2016 Qual­ity (daily) Phys­i­cal Ed­u­ca­tion Award. For its com­mit­ment to of­fer­ing ex­cep­tional phys­i­cal ed­u­ca­tion to the school com­mu­nity, it re­ceived a let­ter of con­grat­u­la­tions from one of the most fa­mous for­mer teach­ers in Canada, Prime Min­is­ter Justin Trudeau.

“This award rec­og­nizes the great suc­cess of your school’s phys­i­cal ed­u­ca­tion pro­gram­ming. As a for­mer teacher and some­one who en­joys a num­ber of sports, I know how im­por­tant it is to get stu­dents mov­ing and to give them the knowl­edge re­quired to make healthy choices that will last a life- time,” he states in a let­ter.

“I would like to com­mend the staff, coaches and par­ents for sup­port­ing a pro­gram that pro­vides op­por­tu­ni­ties for phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity, em­pha­sizes fun and fair play and en­cour­ages lead­er­ship and self-con­fi­dence.”

The award is pre­sented by Phys­i­cal and Health Ed­u­ca­tion (PHE) Canada, which has the vi­sion to sup­port­ing schools in the pro­mo­tion of health

“This award is a recog­ni­tion of your schools’ achieve­ment of pro­vid­ing a qual­ity/ com­pre­hen­sive Phys­i­cal Ed­u­ca­tion pro­gram that pro­vides a foun­da­tion for the devel­op­ment of phys­i­cal lit­er­acy; en­abling stu­dents to live phys­i­cally ac­tive and healthy lives,” stated PHE Pres­i­dent Fran Har­ris in a let­ter. “Out of ap­prox­i­mately 15,000 schools in Canada, close to 500 schools re­ceive this award each year, truly mak­ing your school one of Canada’s lead­ers in phys­i­cal ed­u­ca­tion.”

For their ef­fort, the school was pre­sented with a ban­ner that will be hung in the gym­na­sium.
