Verdant Valley Eye Opener
Twenty four female members of the Doris Wade family spent last Saturday and Sunday at the Verdant Valley Community Center enjoying some quality time together and learning from their mom and grandma, Doris, how to quilt. This quilting workshop was organized by Doris’ daughters. Five of the six sisters – Bernice, Valerie, Jean, Jackie and Gwen were able to attend and two of Terry’s daughters. There were four great granddaughters present as well. Everyone brought their sewing machines and material to make quilts just like the 4H Sewing Club workshops years ago. One ten year old granddaughter made her own small quilt for a baby crib. They had pot luck meals and stayed at Jackie’s and Doris’ homes. What a great idea to get the generations together and pass on the expertise of Grandma Doris! They enjoyed the weekend so much that they probably will do it again.
The Verdant Valley Community Center is a busy place this summer with every weekend booked until mid July. This weekend the family of Cindy Poland is celebrating her mother’s birthday at the Center.
On Wednesday, June 15, twelve members and four husbands of the Verdant Valley and Dorcas Women’s Institute met for a wiener roast and evening at the home of Pat and Barb Murray. The Institute had an entry in the Hand Hills Centennial parade and Pat McDougald, Gerri Shadlock and Diana Rowe rode in it. Diana Rowe was delegate to the annual AWI Provincial Conference in Camrose on June 10 and gave a report. Gerri Shadlock also attended the conference.
