The Standard Community Facility Enhancement Society has a few updates on what’s happening with the Memory Lane Path and Park Project. Gary Browning, landscape architect from Browning Design in Calgary, has been engaged to draw up the master plan for the park. Along with his generous offer to work on a pro bono basis, he brings with him a wealth of experience and a whole lot of enthusiasm for the project. This is a great boost to the progress of the plans. The focus for now will be on the first 2 blocks at the east end of the 1km stretch. Through the Wheatland Community Enhancement Fund, $25,000 was granted and gratefully received. The Acres for Memories wheat crop south of the village was planted and sprayed by local volunteers and is looking good—the harvest will hopefully bring in more funds for the Memory Lane Park. Some donations by individuals and companies have been received as well, and watch for the upcoming cash calendar fundraiser. Please be reminded that residents wishing to contribute their support can receive tax deductible receipts if they make their cheques payable to the Village of Standard, with “Memory Lane” designated on the memo line. Farmers can choose to make their donations through a special account which has been set up with CHS. More updates will be forthcoming. For more information contact Don Sundgaard, Jackie Jensen, Moe Zaleschuk, Louise Welen, Ron Corbiell or Mayor Alan Larsen.

The Standard Municipal Library is hosting its second annual Golf Tournament in Bassano on July 15. For more information, contact Mark or Elizabeth at Gates Agencies, if you have a team you want to enter or are able to sponsor a hole!

Dyanna Couture has a ton of baby convict cich- lids that need homes! Don’t have an aquarium? She can help you out there too! Convict Cichlids can be aggressive, so they need to be with other cichlids or alone. They are amazing parents. The dad babysits and will actually swish the babies around in his mouth to bathe them and then spit them out. Call Dyanna at 403-644-3998 if you would like some. Don’t have a fish tank? She can help you out with that too!
