What a day we had at Stan­dard’s Sport’s Day! The weather cleared nicely for the parade at 10:30 am. Dustin and Stephanie Larsen were the flag bear­ers at the be­gin­ning of the parade. They were fol­lowed by the Clan Maxwell Pipers who come ev­ery year. Next were the chil­dren’s floats with the 11 stu­dents of the Stan­dard Playschool fol­lowed by the Stan­dard Coun­try Kids Child­care whose of­fi­cial open­ing is July 4. The Har­ris Fam­ily were a hit with their trained roost­ers on a leash. The Stan­dard School Float was the only en­try in Youth Clubs. They hon­ored our beloved “old school” with many old ar­ti­facts from the school on dis­play as well as cur­rent and past teach­ers. The Stan­dard Commu- nity Ser­vices di­vi­sion were rep­re­sented by the Lions Club driven by Dar­ren Larsen, the Lionettes driven by Morinne Gregory and Yvonne Way. The Stan­dard Mu­nic­i­pal Library won first prize in this cat­e­gory with the theme of Wild About Read­ing – the theme for the sum­mer read­ing pro­gram. Three riders were in the In­di­vid­ual Horse and Rider sec­tion. They were Avery Koole rid­ing Morn­ing Star, Molly May­nard rid­ing Oscar and Manny MacArthur rid­ing Roy. In the Horse & Car­riage Com­bi­na­tion were Robyn Zakari­asen with Tessa, Colten, Katie and Brody driv­ing Thun­der and Light­ning. Dar­rell Larsen pulled a 100 year old wagon from the Hussin Fam­ily. He was driv­ing Nip and Tuck. Kaden Gau­thier was driv­ing Mini. The Rock­y­ford Lions were the only float from Other Com­mu­ni­ties. They were ad­ver­tis­ing the Bullarama on June 30 in Rock­y­ford as well as their rodeo July 22-24. There were sev­eral en­tries in the Busi­ness & Com­mer­cial sec­tion. The Stan­dard Coop float was fol­lowed by the Agrium float, OK Tire in Strath­more, CHS float, Tervita who won first prize, and Steve’s Karaoke and DJ Ser­vices. The en­tries in the Vin­tage Cars and Trucks were Jonathan & Cole Adamson with their ¾ scale
