Lockdown at Drumheller Institution lifted
A lockdown put in place at the Drumheller Institution on July 11, has ended Monday morning.
On July 11, at about 1:15 p.m., a lockdown was put in place in the medium security unit at Drumheller Institution, to enable staff members to conduct an exceptional search.
The search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates. Visits to the institution were suspended.
On Monday officials said an exceptional search has been completed and the institution has resumed its normal operations.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.
Visits to the institution have resumed.
A lockdown at the Drumheller Institution has been lifted.
