Lock­down at Drumheller In­sti­tu­tion lifted

A lock­down put in place at the Drumheller In­sti­tu­tion on July 11, has ended Mon­day morn­ing.

On July 11, at about 1:15 p.m., a lock­down was put in place in the medium se­cu­rity unit at Drumheller In­sti­tu­tion, to en­able staff mem­bers to con­duct an ex­cep­tional search.

The search was or­dered to en­sure the safety and se­cu­rity of the in­sti­tu­tion, its staff and in­mates. Vis­its to the in­sti­tu­tion were sus­pended.

On Mon­day of­fi­cials said an ex­cep­tional search has been com­pleted and the in­sti­tu­tion has re­sumed its nor­mal op­er­a­tions.

Cor­rec­tional Ser­vice Canada (CSC) is strength­en­ing mea­sures to pre­vent the en­try of con­tra­band into its in­sti­tu­tions in or­der to en­sure a safe and se­cure en­vi­ron­ment for everyone. CSC also works in part­ner­ship with the po­lice to take ac­tion against those who at­tempt to have con­tra­band brought into cor­rec­tional in­sti­tu­tions.

Vis­its to the in­sti­tu­tion have re­sumed.

A lock­down at the Drumheller In­sti­tu­tion has been lifted.
