Summer Fun attendance holding steady
This year’s Summer Fun Program is in full swing this year, with a number of new activities for Drumheller’s youth.
New this year is theme weeks. Every week has a different theme and the activities of that week correspond with it.
“Our first week we had a science theme so we went to the Telus Spark Science centre. This week we went to Wild Rapids water park in Sylvan Lake. Next week, our theme is about dinosaurs so we are staying local and doing a dig for fossils,” says Coordinator Jodi McIlwraith.
The program has about 30 kids enrolled a day. This is about the same rate Summer Fun was at last year.
“Things are going really well this year. We are not in need of any extra supplies, every child is provided with what they need,” says McIlwraith.
The program includes physical literacy, library time, swimming, crafts as well as cooking and baking for kids aged 8-12. “The activities such as creative arts or swimming is geared towards their age. The older kids have different activities,” informs McIlwraith.
Next week is nature week for the children of Summer Fun. On Thursday, July 28 they will be heading off to the Discovery Wildlife Park in Innisfail.
