The Drumheller Mail - - REAL ESTATE - Helen Leonhardt 403-823-9823 FREE ESTIMATES

We had a surprise visit from my nephew Stacey Howard and his family last Monday. They are from Peers, Alberta (south of Whitecourt).

On Friday, July 22 Fred and Gerri Shadlock took in the pony chuckwagon races at Rockyford. They did not see any rodeo but noticed in the program that Harley Wilson and son Wyatt of Rimbey participated in the slack that day. Wyatt was in steer wrestling and Harley in tie down roping and both in the team roping. Harley is son of Carl and Mary Ellen Wilson of Rimbey. Fred Ewing drove his chuckwagon in a safe race at the Rockyford Rodeo.

The sympathy of the community is sent to the Ewing and Powell families on the passing of Dave Powell, husband of Lori and father of Tyson and Kassidy, on July 22, 2016. A service of remembrance was held on Friday, July 29 from the Rosedale Hall.

On Saturday, August 13 the Verdant Valley Ag Society will be hosting a Chore Horse competition at the Community Center from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. The Verdant Valley Community Center is 15 kms east of Drumheller on paved Highway 576. A Chore Horse competition involves heavy work horses like Clydes, Canadians and others. A course is set up and a timed event has horses and owners going through a course which tests their skill and training. The hope is that young and older spectators will re-live some of the pioneer days with displays of antique auto and machinery, exhibits of quilting, spinning and weaving, old time home making displays and pictures of horse powered farming. There will be activities for kids and a concession for snacks. Admission for the afternoon is free. A Beef on a Bun supper will be served starting at 5:00 pm with old time music. Tickets for the supper can be purchased at Riverside Value Drug Mart in Drumheller. For more information see ad in the Drumheller Mail on July 27 and August 10 or call Lyle at 403-820-6779.

Happy birthday this week to Shelly (Keirle) Polzin on August 5, Carol Keirle and Robyn McDougald on August 7.

Best wishes on your wedding anniversary to Lacey ( Wilson) and Grant Beatty on your first anniversary on August 8.
