The Drumheller Mail - - AROUND TOWN - Darcy Graham 403-772-3747

Hey there, hi there! Our family just returned home from our summer vacation motorhome trip. We had a fantastic holiday and weather as we toured down into the good ol’ US of A. Our dollar is weaker but gas and food prices are much lower so it all balanced out. This year we travelled through North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Missouri and back home through Montana. Our daughter has read all the Laura Ingalls Wilder books (Little House on the Prairie) and we found two museums, one in DeSmet, South Dakota and two of the restored family homes in Mansfield, Missouri...it was amazing and mission accomplished! The USA is so big! We found an 1880 Town in Belvidere, South Dakota and got to rent a costume for the day and had a blast! Wild Bob meets saloon girl and they have pre- cious Miss Charly...so much fun! Dr. Bob made a handsome cowboy.

Anyway, back home again... nice to go away and it is always nice to come home. Thank you to kind friends who mowed our lawn while we were away and from the looks of how lush it looks, we must have had our fair share of rain.

And now, just catching up with mail and laundry and as I read through The Drumheller Mail newspaper I was quite impressed to see that Big Valley cowboy Zeke Thurston won the 100,000 dollar saddle bronc prize at the Calgary Stampede this year...well done... especially because it was such a sloppy mess this stampede season with tremendous amounts of rain.

And I also enjoyed the article written by Patrick Kolafa about the action being taken on behalf of concerned coal workers in Alberta...way to go Rick Strankman, Corey Borek and MP Kevin Sorenson for sticking up for this important industry during this time of energy transition and climate leadership plans. Communication with mayors and government ministers is very critical and seems to be happening. I really appreciated reading this and, also the editor’s bit about the exciting US election process. I agree wholeheartedly with my boss on the comments about Donald Trump. His acceptance speech did highlight a lot of things that are wrong with America and whether you like him or not, he has won the heart of the nation. We had some interesting conversations with Americans during our vacation as we travelled through the states and only met one couple and two rather inebriated fellows that would vote for “crooked Hillary”, and I did ask around almost everywhere we camped...ah, politics, sure gets me going!

Cheers!
