The Craigmyle Historic Society held their summer meeting last week and a number of community plans were put in place.
Coming up quickly is the annual Pumpkin Fest, which has an added dimension this year. The no-charge event is scheduled for Saturday, September 10 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. The Pumpkin Fest is a month earlier this year for a very good reason. This year the ever popular hay ride will take youngsters to the pumpkin patch to choose their own free pumpkin in the patch. It appears as though there will be three colours of pumpkins to choose from: green, orange and white. Pumpkins and their new owners can then return by hayride to the Historic Church where the new owner of the pumpkin can proceed to decorate it in whatever manner he or she desires at no cost. Hayrides to the pumpkin patch will leave at 11:30 am; 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm.
Also happening this day is a number of fun kid’s games to participate in with a cost just to cover the price of the prizes. Every participant is guaranteed to take home a lot of goodies.
Lunch is also available with a menu that will appeal to both kids and parents. This is designed to be a low (or no) cost family day, and all families are welcome to attend.
The Historic Society also set the date for their fall turkey supper. Sunday, November 20 is the day to come to Craigmyle to enjoy another fantastic supper.
The monthly pancake breakfast was also discussed and it was decided that it would begin on October 2.
Other business revolved around discussion about several projects to continue to improve the facility. Thanks to Ken Rees for his work to repair the siding on the west side of the building following the June 30 “almost” fire.
A Craigmyle Church Women’s meeting followed and Betty graciously agreed to continue to manage the biweekly Coffee Break in the church basement. The Coffee Break will begin on Tuesday, September 1 and be held every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9:30 – 11:00 am.
A final order for the Craigmyle Centennial Photo Album will be placed by the end of September. This would make a great Christmas gift for that ‘hard to buy for’ individual. You can place your order by contacting Bev at 403-6652492 before September 25. There will be no subsequent orders placed. Also, a reminder that a small number of Craigmyle History books are still available. Contact people for purchasing a book are Bev (403-665-2492) and Gail (403665-2292)
Birthday greetings go out to Wally Stern on Aug. 27; Keven Minchau on Aug. 28 and Leah Meyer and Seth Meyer on Aug. 29. Happy Anniversary to Brent and Debi Olmstead on Aug. 27.
