I hope you were able to enjoy the beautiful sunshine this past weekend whether you were in the field or taking a break by a lake. This week is expected to be a little more topsy turvy but for those who are silaging or haying, I hope you will be able to continue on. I did see a few swathers getting busy in the grain fields so it won’t be long before the combines come out and start turning those bountiful crops. It was an early spring so I guess we can expect an early harvest season.
The Red Deer River Garden Club is gearing up for their garden show next week. It is planned for Wednesday, August 31. You can bring in your baking, photos and garden collections on Tuesday night from 7 to 10:00 p.m. and, also, on Wednesday morning from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. then the judges will take over. With the rain and sunshine we have experienced this year there should be no excuse why you can’t find one or two items to enter in the show. It is a lot of fun to participate in this event. There are entry books available at the post office if you would like to know more about the show.
There will be a memorial for Gena Dingman on Saturday, September 24 at the Drop-in and a private service out at the cemetery prior to the luncheon.
Finally, a giggle to get you through; Things Never Said by a redneck: -- Duct tape won’t fix that. -- Come to think of it, I’ll have a Heineken. -- We don’t keep firearms in the house. -- You can’t feed that to the dog. -- The kids can’t ride in the back of the pickup -- it’s just not safe. -- Honey, did you mail that donation to Greenpeace? -- We’re vegetarians. -- Do you think my gut is too big? -- Honey, we don’t need another dog. -- We could just share a small bag of pork rinds -- Too many deer heads detract from the decor -- I just couldn’t find a thing at Wal-Mart today -- Is there anything in this restaurant that’s NOT fried? -- The tires on that truck are too big. -- Checkmate. -- I believe you cooked those greens too long
Have a good week.
