Isn’t Alberta something, we can go from 30+ degrees on Sunday to feeling like we need to put the furnace on for Monday. We are luckier than some with yesterday’s moisture, family at Buck Lake received 6 inches of rain in 12 hours and there are complete fields that are underwater, so much so that you can’t see the round bales that were in the fields.
On August 22, there was a Wild Pink Yonder Trail ride in the area. Don Howard, Jorden Ferguson and Mary James were the leaders of this ride which took the riders through the badlands of Wilson and Dooley coulees. I was told it was a successful sunny ride in the morning with a bad storm coming in on them in the afternoon. There were approximately 18 riders participating in this ride to raise funds for CRINA which stands for Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta. The main goal is to raise funds for breast cancer research. There are trail rides held throughout Alberta for this very worthwhile cause. The Wild Pink Yonder organization has raised over $800,000 for the cause in the past seven years by doing trail rides throughout the province. Good job everyone.
The Paul Brandt concert at the Passion Play site on Sunday, August 21 was excellent. He is a great entertainer and played all his hits to a good sized crowd. It made sitting in the hot sun worth every minute.
The Red Deer River Garden Show at the Rumsey Agriplex will be taking entries August 30 from 7 to 10 pm and 31 from 8 am to 10 am. Judging will take place throughout the day on August 31 with the show open to the general public starting at 4:00 with supper from 5:00-7:00. It’s always a fun event to check out as it’s amazing what is being grown in the area.
We are getting closer to the Dinosaur Valley Half Marathon, 10K and 5K which will be held on September 11. Registration is looking good with numbers up over 350 for the three races. There is still time to join this great event, check out the website at: www.dinosaurvalleyhalf.com.
