Woman charged in fundraiser theft pleads not guilty

A woman ac­cused of tak­ing funds from a fundraiser for a young man fight­ing cancer will be go­ing to trial in Fe­bru­ary. Ash­ley Fredrick­son was charged with theft un­der $5,000 and was sched­uled for her first ap­pear­ance in pro­vin­cial court in Drumheller on Fri­day, Au­gust 26. An agent ap­peared in court on be­half of Fredrick­son and en­tered a not guilty plea. Her trial is sched­uled for Fe­bru­ary 10, 2017.

Drumheller RCMP launched an in­ves­ti­ga­tion in June af­ter re­ceiv­ing a com­plaint al­leg­ing a sub­stan­tial amount of funds were miss­ing from a si­lent auc­tion held to ben­e­fit Bran­don Hall, who is bat­tling cancer.

On April 30 of this year the com­mu­nity raised over $20,000 in a poker run and si­lent auc­tion to sup­port Hall and his fam­ily for ex­penses in­curred for his treat­ment, which in­cluded re­mov­ing a tu­mor from the teenager's chest.
