Did you know that in the 14 years Hussar School has collected Campbell Soup labels they have collected 129,388 points which were used to “buy” things for the school?? That is a lot of soup consumed. It was a very worthwhile project and it is sad that it is ending. Many thanks to all who saved labels for us from this community and many surrounding ones as well as the Strathmore Hospital and Bassano Playfair Lodge.

The last day of Library Program was held on August 23. The event was supposed to happen at the Hall but was moved to the Arena because of all the rain. There was boun- cy castles, ring toss, batting game and face painting. The kids enjoyed popcorn, cotton candy and sno-cones. Special thanks to Darren for his help moving the activities indoor!
A huge thank you to Maryann and the Hussar Municipal Library for sponsoring and running such a wonderful and successful Library program this year. I have heard nothing but great things from all the kids.
Verna Heryford, Donna Collett, Yvonne Comstock and Wendy Kaiser enjoyed a few days away to Moose Jaw and Manitou Beach. After finding all places west were booked and expensive they decided to head east. They enjoyed some gambling, toured the underground tunnels, went bar hopping and really enjoyed the mineral springs at Manitou Beach. While we have had lots of rain and flooding here, at Manitou the beach is slowly going under water for the past few years and they are meeting to try to find a solution. But because of the salt content they are having a tough time. Quite the place to see.
Barb, Erin and Jason Slemko spent August 1419 at Barb’s parent’s home in Calgary. Erin attended a ringette camp put on by the National Ringette League, while Jason attended the Edge Hockey School. Both camps were held at the Trico Centre in the South East. The kids enjoyed their week back on the ice working on skills for the upcoming season.
Leroy & Darlene Fandry along with Scott & Monica Morrow from August 14-21 enjoyed a holiday through PEI, Nova Scotia and the Cabot Trail. They had a brief stop in Moncton, NB after crossing the Confederation Bridge. Many of the famous Maritime sights were visited and the Cabot Trail was beautiful. While on Pier 21 in Halifax, Monica found her great grandmothers (Ethel Clark) passport from Liverpool on the ship after the Titanic. They came home feeling very fortunate to be able to see this beautiful part of Canada.
Congratulations to Garry and Erin (Fandry) Harwood on the birth of their beautiful new daughter Maddison Amelia Harwood on August 17. She weighed 9lbs 14 oz. Leroy and Darlene are excited to have their third great grandchild.
The Dalum/Hussar Lutheran Parish would like to extend an invitation to the community to a celebration of Pastor Dan Hendrickson’s 25th year of ordination. There will be a joint church service at Dalum at 11:15 on September 25 with lunch and a program to follow at 12:30. Everyone is welcome to attend any or all of the celebration. To commemorate this occasion, the congregations are raising a “guitar fund” to go towards the purchase of a new guitar to replace the one he broke earlier this year. Anyone in the community that has been touched by Pastor Dan’s ministry that wishes to contribute to the fund can do so by contacting the following:
For Dalum: Contact Julie Eskeland at 8235283. For Hussar: Contact Wendy Nielsen at 403-641-2203.
The Art and Dianne Taubert families travelled to Aspen Crossing on August 26 to celebrate Kristen and Peter Anderson’s 25th Wedding An- niversary. They had a very quick bite to eat at the Mossleigh Bar’n Grill and then went on the Twilight Train Excursion. There were many interesting individuals on the train providing a great evening of entertainment. There was even a marriage proposal. Peter asked Kristen if she would marry him again. She said yes and was presented with a rather large ruby solitaire ring. They returned to Kristen and Peter’s for cake and coffee. All 18 said they really enjoyed the train tour.
The Hussar Municipal Library Board; Tim Frank, Kathy Dundas, Kristen Anderson and Jennifer Pratt, along with Library Manager Gay Harms, would like to thank everyone that supported our book and furniture sale at the library last week. The sale was a huge success! Some shelving, a file cabinet and the desk are still available if anyone is interested they can contact any of the board members. While we are exploring new library alternatives, you will still be able to obtain books at Chinook Financial. The books are there for everyone’s use. They will be lent on the honour system, so please feel free to pop in and pickup children’s books and current best sellers. Please return the items back to the displays. Thank you to Chinook Financial for providing the space and to the Marigold Library System for providing the best sellers. Keep watching for further library developments and our annual membership drive which will be held in September.
