Delia Senior News
The last long weekend of the summer is coming up on Friday, guess that means summer is over. School will begin soon, some school districts may have started already. My grandkids go back after the long weekend –they don’t like to be reminded of it.
News from the Highland Market is that they hope to open sometime in September, construction is ongoing so it looks quite interesting. It will be a great convenience for the residents of Delia to have the store back.
The general meeting at the Drop In Centre will happen Thursday morning, September 8, at 10 in the morning, come have a coffee, sit in on the meeting and hear what the Drop In has planned for the rest of the year. You don’t have to be a member to attend any of the events at the Drop In, as memberships are available but not required. Just come to visit over coffee. There is going to be a presentation on Senior Housing at the Drop In Centre on Tuesday morning, September 13 at 10 a.m. Come find out what choices are available. The birthday party for September is scheduled for Wednesday, September 14, to celebrate the birthdays of members and friends who celebrate their special day in August and September. A Pot Luck lunch is held at the Drop In every third Thursday of the month at twelve noon, bring a dish and join us for lunch.
I have a sad message from Nancy Stiles to share. Everyone living in Delia a few years ago was familiar with the sight of Nancy Stiles riding her horse, Cole, or driving Cole as he pulled that beautiful wagon. When Nancy and her family moved to Newberry, Nancy rode Cole all the way to their new home. He was a talented and beautiful animal, completely devoted to his mistress. Cole became quite ill and had to be put down just recently, leaving his family with heavy hearts and fond memories.
Road construction continues in Delia, please walk and drive with extra caution. Roads are treacherous and heavy machinery is moving rapidly-you are probably not going to get the right of way. Be careful.
The Delia Skating Club is having an information and registration meeting at the Delia School on September 12 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. There will be information about enrollment for children in Can Skate, Star Skate, Pre Power Skate, and Can Power Skate. The season runs from November to March.
Enjoy the last long weekend of the summer. Drive with care, Delia has no residents to spare!
