Verdant Valley Eye Opener
The members and chaperones of the Drumheller District 4H clubs enjoyed an exchange with an Ontario 4H district this summer. In the first part of July the local clubs hosted 4Hers from Ontario and on July 25 to August 3 they returned the visit. Camryn and Liam McDougald were on that exchange and Koren McDougald was a chaperone on the trip. They did a lot of travelling in Ontario spending a day in Toronto visiting the CN Tower and attending a Blue Jay’s baseball game. They camped out at Lake Erie, spent a day at Lake Huron, Niagara Falls and zip lining in London, Ontario, visited St Jacob’s Market at the auction near Woodstock and visited Stratford, Ontario. They spent some time on agricultural tours visiting dairy, goat and bee farms. Sounds like they had a great time and really bonded with the 4Hers from Ontario. A wonderful experience for these young people.
Last Monday the Wild Pink Yonder trail ride took place in the Wilson and Dooley coulees. Don Howard was the trail boss. The ride was in support of breast cancer. Nineteen riders and horses took part in the ride, several from the Verdant Valley community. The riders enjoyed the beautiful country side and beautiful weather only interrupted for a while by a short rain and hail storm. The riders and organizers enjoyed a barbecued steak supper at the Stampede Barn.
Congratulations to Tina Mepham and Chad Wegner who were married on Saturday, August 27 at Grace Lutheran Church with reception and dance at the Verdant Valley Community Center. Best wishes from your friends and family in this community.

A correction from last week’s column – Chad Harden did win the Rocky Mountain Chuckwagon show however Luke Tournier had the most points for the 2016 season over the nine shows.
