Excuse my language, but I think fall is here! Brr! Hopefully the weather stays favorable for all of our farmers working so hard to bring their harvest in!

Kevin and Shannon Slade, from Cluny, are running the Standard Rosebud Arena kitchen this year! They are open from 11-2 Monday through Saturday, which will increase once the ice goes in. They are offering daily homemade soup, a hotplate special, and home baked goods as well as the usual concession type offerings of burgers, chicken fingers, and fries. They also do catering and special events! I hear their burgers are to die for!

The Standard Municipal Library is offering “Minute 2 Win it” this Wednesday at 3:30 pm. Don’t forget to register!

We know it’s too early to think about ice time, but it will creep up on us like it does every year! The Standard Figure Skating Club will be having a registration meeting on Thursday September 22 at 7:30pm (1930) at the Standard arena. They are also going to be assigning some positions (fundraising, secretary and treasurer) so consider what you will be able to contribute this year for volunteer hours. They will go through the time commitment for each at the meeting, if they get enough education in Maple Creek and later became a LPN. She worked at Maple Creek Hospital until she moved to Cal- gary in 1965 and later moved to Drumheller in 1973 where she resided until her passing. Shirley, along with her husband Frank, owned and managed 13 hotels during that time before retiring in 2015. She was no stranger to hard work but loved being busy. Her house was always well-kept and she was always meticulous in her appear- ance. She loved spending time with her family, loved to cook, dance, entertain and enjoyed going for a leisurely drive in the evenings. Shirley was predeceased by her parents Albert and Mary Frey, daughter Debbie and son Brian. She leaves to mourn her loving husband of 52 years, Frank, son Doug and his daughters Cersten and Brayden, son Bruce (Shirley), their daughters Jessica (Steve), Amber ( Tyler), grandson Jamie (Ashley), great-grandchildren Lincoln and Koa Sternkey, Beau Kirby and Max Sharp. Shirley will also be dearly missed by her brothers Bruce ( June), Barry and sister Marg (Bob). In honour of Shirley’s wishes, a private Graveside Service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. If friends and/or family so desire, donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Drumheller Community Cancer Centre (351 - 9 St NW, Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y1) or charity of their choice.
