Morrin Community Calendar
Well folks, here we are halfway through the month...Labour Day weekend is past and fall routines for many have resumed. Welcome back to all the staff and students at the Morrin School as classes are well underway and thanks to parent council and helpers as they kicked things off with the annual fall pancake breakfast last Thursday...hope you all have a great school year!
And now we pray for and await some nice, warm, dry, late summer harvest weather so the bountiful crop may come in. It was a little cool and rainy last week but this next week looks to be a little more on the sunny side so hope to see the fieldwork begin and carry on.
And I do have a little bit of new news for you all today. The Morrin Community Hall members had a meeting recently and they have some important dates and events to announce. The fall supper, delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings, will be held 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26 at the Hall. And later on, Sunday November 20 from 11:00 – 3:00 is the annual Christmas Market at the Hall.
Also, this past week, I received an email from Yvonne to let you all know that “Stay and Play” at the Morrin United Church is starting up again for pre-schoolers ages 0-6. When we moved to Morrin in the fall of 2007, my daughter Charly was just a toddler and this was a favorite local activity. This free Golden Prairie Parent link program runs every Thursday morning from 10:00-11:30 and the kids get to do fun stuff...art, singing, science, reading, playing ... puzzles, blocks, castles, playdough and more. So Morrin and area parents with little ones, it is a good chance to walk down and enjoy an outing together. They also host seasonal parties...Hallowe’en party on October 27, and Christmas party on December 8 and older siblings are always welcome and it all begins on Thursday morning, September 29.
Another local benefit to residents is the family-run arena concession open for lunch and dinner every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They started things up after the extensive arena/kitchen renovation was completed by the AG Society last summer right before the 95th Morrin Homecoming, and David and Char continue to provide a service that is so appreciated and enjoyed by many...nice to have a place to go out and eat and take your kids.
And lastly, the sewer/water line replacement on first avenue north is progressing. I will give you all an update on that after the next Village of Morrin Council meeting.
Well, that is all for today, having to ignite the gas fireplace on these cool September mornings ... go farmers ... go Blue Jays! Cheers!
