On Tuesday morning the members of the Drop In Centre, and guests, were treated to a presentation by Alberta Government Support Services on Elder Abuse. Presenters were Roxie Goldie, Peggy Barrone and Diana Rowe, Starland Community Services Director. This was an informative session on awareness of different forms of abuse and what to watch for and how to react if abuse is suspected. The door prize for the day was won by Doreen McNair. We will have a presentation on government financial assistance in October.
The September Birthday Party at the Delia Drop In Centre was held on Wednes- day afternoon, with Elsie as hostess in place of Pat and Eleanor. Eight members were present for a fun afternoon of visiting and cards. Elsie called bingo and several nice prizes were won by everyone. A delicious lunch of angel food with strawberries and whipped cream was served for lunch, which everyone enjoyed. The door prize, an autumn themed centerpiece, was won by Joan Morrison.
Pot Luck was held at the Centre on Thursday afternoon with a movie that followed.
Good news for residents of Delia, our new store, the Highland Market, is scheduled to open this week, something we have all been waiting for. Best wishes from the Community, everyone is wishing a most successful journey for this store and all those involved who invested in our community!
The Annual Fall Fair is quickly coming up on October 15 at the Delia Arena. While you are visiting and seeing all the Fair has to offer, you don’t want to miss the “Fine Art Photography Art Show and Sale” sponsored by the Delia Historical Society, at the “Historic St. Patrick’s Church.” We are showcasing the work of local photographers from Delia, Craigmyle, Hanna, Handhills and Drumheller. Hope you will mark this on your calendars.
It’s Leapfrog and Tadpole Preschool Story Time at the Delia Library on Tuesdays Sept. 20 and 27, at 11:15 To 12 noon. Free program but child must be accompanied by an adult. Preschool story time celebrates the joys of language and story through the use of music, puppets, picture books, storytelling and more.
Delia and other areas are welcome to the Free program in Morrin “Stay and Play”! This is a program for parents or caregivers with children 0 to 6 years of age. It is going to be held on Thursday 10 to 11:30 am in the United Church in Morrin, from September 29 to October 27, and November 17 to December 8. For information call Yvonne at 403 820 5157.
