Local farmers gave their skills, time and machinery last week in support of the Memory Lane Park project underway in Standard. Earlier, the Standard Community Facility Enhancement Society appointed Jackie Jensen to work with volunteers and businesses to plant a quarter section of wheat as a fundraiser for the park, and when it was ready for swathing, 7 farmers responded to the call on a warm sunny day and brought their swathers with them. Together, they completed the job in a few hours and at the same time gave an enormous boost to the community project. We are looking forward to seeing a row of combines picking up the wheat within a week or so. If any area farmers with combines, trucks, and grain wagons can donate the use of their machinery and their time to help out, please contact Alan Larsen at 901-6411. That event will be celebrated with a community harvest get-together on the site of the park grounds later this month—weather permitting, of course.
Nazareth Lutheran Church is hosting its second annual Blessing of the Beasts worship service on October 2 at 10:30 am. St. Francis of Assisi was a great lover of animals and his feast day is October 4 every year. All pets are invited, great or small, to bring their owners to worship that day and receive a special blessing. All pets are to be contained in a crate or on a leash. Please don’t bring spiders if you wish to see Pastor Dyanna again.
The Standard Lions wish to thank the community members who helped out with the Casino on the long weekend. Your help was greatly appreciated!
