Man us­ing coun­ter­feit cur­rency fined $1,000

A man try­ing to pass $100 of coun­ter­feit cur­rency now has to pay up to the tune of $1,000.

Zachary De­caire ap­peared in provin­cial court in Drumheller on Fri­day, Septem­ber 16. He pleaded guilty to pass­ing coun­ter­feit cur­rency.

On Jan­uary 31, 2016, he was at the Ex­tra Foods gas bar when he tried to use a fake $100. Ac­cord­ing to his de­fense, De­caire re­ceived the bill af­ter do­ing some work on a cash ba­sis, and ad­mits it was a bad pho­to­copy. He has made resti­tu­tion.

Judged Grieve told the court nor­mally for this type of of­fense. He was fined $1,000 plus a vic­tim’s fine sur­charge of $300.
