A man trying to pass $100 of counterfeit currency now has to pay up to the tune of $1,000.
Zachary Decaire appeared in provincial court in Drumheller on Friday, September 16. He pleaded guilty to passing counterfeit currency.
On January 31, 2016, he was at the Extra Foods gas bar when he tried to use a fake $100. According to his defense, Decaire received the bill after doing some work on a cash basis, and admits it was a bad photocopy. He has made restitution.
Judged Grieve told the court normally for this type of offense. He was fined $1,000 plus a victim’s fine surcharge of $300.
