Last week was an eventful week as we hosted two of the events for the Alberta 55 Games. Both the Snooker and Scrabble were held on Friday and Saturday and two of our members took part in the Snooker and Marcel LaPlante won a silver medal for the 50+ and Al Bremer a Bronze for the 70+. Scrabble was played by 6 ladies and there were judges for each of the games. Everyone complemented on the venue and the lunch provided by members.
A group of members went to Delia to celebrate George and Elsie Humphrey’s 70th wedding anniversary, a great opportunity to offer congratulations on such a wonderful event.
On Tuesday the centre held their Annual General Meeting and voted 2 new members to the executive, Barbara Davidson as Secretary and Laura Clavette a Director, all others were returned for a further year. The treasurer gave his yearly report which remains in good health and reported that the centre has applied for a grant to replace the roof so that it keeps the building in excellent condition for years to come. In the past year we have had the bathrooms improved to make them accessible for the disabled, plus we have had new chairs and tables, new sewing machines to help the quilters and several items for the kitchen. Everywhere is looking very nice, why not call in for coffee when you are passing? And I just remind everyone floor shuffleboard starts again on Friday at 10:00 am in the Field House at the Badlands Community Facility.
