Ethan improves daily
Ethan Isley, Drumheller’s littlest warrior, underwent fetal surgery April 30, 2014 in Philadelphia after being diagnosed with Spina Bifida. Since then, has come a long way since the surgery at 23 weeks gestation.
Mom, Nikki Isley said, “He began walking with a loaner walker from The Lending Cupboard in Red Deer in June, and has now been approved to get his own walker! The new one has been ordered, and we are awaiting its arrival.” sedated MRI. He's has lots of fast MRIs that were quick and didn't need sedating.” Nikki said, “This one was two hours and he had to be sedated for it.”
During the MRI they found a few cysts in his back and the MRI images were sent to his fetal surgeon in Philadelphia to view and decide if they need to be surgically removed.
“We will be able to do the surgery at Alberta Children's Hospital if it's needed, but we need the fetal surgeon's opinion since the Children’s Hospital doesn't have very many fetal surgery kids.” Nikki told the Mail.
“Despite all that, he is doing quite well!” Nikki said, “He enjoys running around with his walker outside, chasing his sisters and the neighbour girls, and being a pretty typical boy!”
