On Novem­ber 2, 1947, Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose took its first and only flight.

Big con­grat­u­la­tions to Cec Watt on re­ceiv­ing the “Or­der of the Eastern Star”, which was given to her in recog­ni­tion of 60 years of ser­vice to the com­mu­nity. Cec joined the or­der in Stan­dard, and has taken part as it mi­grated first to Gle­ichen and then to Brooks. We are proud of you and all that you have done for the com­mu­nity Cec! Con­grat­u­la­tions!

A great af­ter­noon was spent as the com­bines rolled in and har­vested the Mem­ory Lane field. Thank you to Erik and Richard Bach, Tim, David and Matt Nielsen, Har­vey and Clif­ford Larsen, Trent Sundgard, Don Jensen, Brian Ras­mussen, Mike Ras­mussen, Don Sundgard. Brian, Mike, Moe and Louise Wellen and a spe­cial thank you to Alan Larsen for bring­ing supper. What a great com­mu­nity we live in - vol­un­teers are awe­some!

I want to wish Elmer and Leona Jensen a very happy 76th wed­ding an­niver­sary (Oc­to­ber 27). Can you be­lieve they have been mar­ried so long? We wish them many more years of hap­pi­ness.

Don’t for­get to come out to the Nazareth church Women’s turkey supper on Novem­ber 2 from 5 un­til 7 p.m. The ladies and their team of helpers have been bak­ing hard and we look for­ward to another de­li­cious com­mu­nity meal!

The Nazareth Lutheran Church’s Shep­herd School had a fun time on Oc­to­ber 29 go­ing door to door to do “Re­verse Trick or Treat­ing”. In­stead of ask­ing for a treat, they were giv­ing them away to all their neigh­bors to show that they love you and want to bless you! Thank you to ev­ery­one who pro­vided treats and took part in the fun!

With the colder weather comes more op­por­tu­nity to con­tract the com­mon cold or even the flu! There is a flu shot clinic at the Stan­dard Se­nior’s Cen­ter on Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 9 from 11 a.m. un­til 3 p.m. Re­mem­ber to bring your Al­berta Health Care Card! The Wheat­land Weed Con­sen­sus meet­ing is com­ing up. Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from oil and gas, spray com­pa­nies and the County will be there to dis­cuss cur­rent is­sues with in­va­sive plants with lo­cal land owner/pro­duc­ers. They meet on Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 2, 2-4 p.m. at the Rock­y­ford Com­mu­nity Cen­tre. Ev­ery­one is wel­come.

Need a coat for the com­ing win­ter for you or a mem­ber of your fam­ily? County Coats will be in Stan­dard on Wed­nes­day, De­cem­ber 7 from 3:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thanks to the com­mu­nity for sup­port­ing this great en­deav­our.

The Mem­ory Lane Com­mit­tee still has 50 tick­ets for their draw. Tick­ets can be ob­tained through any of the com­mit­tee mem­bers, or by call­ing Mayor Al­lan Larsen.

Adults! Come con­nect, re­lax and have some fun with Hand Built Pot­tery (cre­at­ing unique bowls and plates by hand) on Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 16 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Stan­dard Li­brary. To save your seat (lim­ited room) and for more in­for­ma­tion, call 403-983-3640. We are also look­ing for a vol­un­teer Hospi­tal­ity Host who can as­sist the fa­cil­i­ta­tor. They will re­ceive a com­pli­men­tary work­shop in thanks for their help.
