Don't just buy and wear a poppy, take a moment to reflect on what it stands for. Saddened to hear of the passing of Maryann Rasmussen, who co-authored the Dalum news column with husband Gerald. There was always a Raketti around when we were going to school and one even worked at The Drumheller Mail way back, so newspapering must have been her calling.

A couple of noticeable things happened in the October 24 Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner federal by-election, where Conservative Glen Motz, won with a resounding 70% of the votes. Motz thanked Prime Minister Trudeau for showing up in the riding earlier this month, stumping for Liberal candidate Stan Sakamoto, who came in second. With November now upon us, it is the month where men start to grow facial hair of their choosing to bring about awareness of prostate cancer, and a reminder to have your physician check off the PSA box on your lab requisition, or get him/her to do a rectal exam during your medical. Become aware of prostate cancer, and checking should start in your 40s, or even earlier if there is family history of the problem.
Now, it is inadvisable to do the rectal on your self, and no, it not a test of friendship to have anyone else do it either.
Consult a physician, you'll be glad you did.
