A Carbon man who was reported missing by the Kindersley RCMP, has been found safe near Oyen.

On Friday, November 4, 2016, Walter Ansel, age 75, departed his residence in Carbon, Alberta to visit family in the RM of Harts Hill, Saskatchewan. Police were able to determine that Mr. Ansel was seen by a neighbour, approximately two kilometres from his intended destination, at 5:00 p.m. on November 4. When Mr. Ansel did not arrive at his destination, and did not return home, he was reported missing to RCMP in Kindersley, Saskatchewan

Two days later, on November 6, a group of hunters reported finding a vehicle parked in a rural area near the community of Esther, Alberta and contacted the RCMP. Members from the Oyen RCMP Detachment attended the location and determined that the vehicle belonged to Mr. Ansel. In the vehicle was Mr. Ansel's dog, "Cheeco", who was found to be in good health.

On November 7, members from the Oyen and Consort RCMP Detachments, along with RCMP Police Dog Services, Medicine Hat Search and Rescue and RCMP Air Services, conducted an extensive search of the area near where Mr. Ansel's vehicle had been located. Mr. Ansel was found during the course of the search efforts and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

There is no indication of foul play at this time, however, the investigation by police into the circumstances surrounding this incident is ongoing. The RCMP wish to extend their sincere gratitude for the assistance of the public in bringing this matter to a successful and happy conclusion.

Walter Ansel has been located.
