It was a tale of two fortunes as the Junior B boys and girls St. Anthony’s Saints hosted their annual home tournament.

On Friday night, December 16, the Junior B boys hosted Wheatland Crossing, Duchess and a team from Airdrie in the round robin tournament. The Saints opened the tournament playing Wheatland Crossing and made short work of the team winning, 42-13. In their next game, they took on Duchess and won 28-14. They wrapped up the tournament versus Airdrie and won 4131, finishing the tournament in first place and with a gold medal.

Coach Jay Mulgrew was impressed how his young team performed.

“They are really coming together and improving in every game,” said Mulgrew.

The Junior B girls Saints took to the court on Saturday morning and were strong out of the gate. Versus Berry Creek, they battled from behind to take the lead down the stretch, but defensive breakdowns allowed Berry Creek to go up, finishing the game 2221.

The Saints regrouped to face Rosemary, but were unable to take the lead and fell 26-22.

They finished the tournament versus Airdrie, but their offense was stalled versus the very Tall Airdrie team and they lost 22-9.

Berry Creek was undefeated in the tournament and took home the gold.
