The Drumheller Mail - - SPORTS - Patty Steen 403-368-3820

It’s almost Christmas so now I will starting counting the days. I’m sure everyone is a little frantic to get the last of the preparations done before the relatives and friends arrive.

The Super League had their playoffs this weekend with Brooks Watts and his team of Leah Watts, Dawn Wright and Cheryl Richen taking home the big prize of first place. They played against Jim Krywcun’s team with his sons Dallas and Derek, Jim Taylor on the team with Brett Ho- lowath filling in for Jim Taylor on the weekend. The third place winners were Tim Primrose, Curt McNaughton, Brett Adams and David Webster and the Rod Nelson team taking the 4th spot in the finals. His team consisted of Kevin Helmer, Mark McNaughton, Mike Steen with Bradley Nelson taking Mike’s spot on the weekend.

The Children’s Christmas party was held this past Friday with a crowd of 23 children coming from near and far to enjoy Santa’s company. They decorated cookies and built a Christmas ornament for their tree, enjoyed a visit with Santa and watched a movie all while in their pajamas so it was loads of fun. Thank you to the organizers of this event as it replaces the Christmas concert and is great fun.

The Ag Society had their General Meeting on Monday where the members who have finished their 3 year terms hand over their knowledge to the new members who have agreed to take their place. This years’ changes are: Alex Jensen hands over his presidency cap to Al Hampton, Jackie Watts takes on the job of Vice President, Trina MacFarlane signs on as Secretary, Curt McNaughton stays on as Treasurer, Rod Nelson continues as Curling Co-ordinator, Cayle Griffith will continue as Entertainment planner, Sharon Walker takes on another year as Recruiter of new members, Sandy McNaughton continues in the busy position of Kitchen co-ordinator, Baylee Nelson stays on as Garden Show rep, Tara Richmond as 4-H and S.T.A.R.S rep, Lorna Hodge comes on as our new Publicity rep, Doug Perry will continue to do a great job as our Handyman, Phil McBride and myself haven’t been assigned a title which means we get the worst jobs, just kidding. B.J. Perry will be our Hall and Rink Booking Lady from now on. The Ag Society would like to thank the members who have completed their 3 years: Alex Jensen, Claire Krywcun, Angie VanStraten, Travis Caweziel and Norah Watts. Brooks and Jackie Watts will continue to be the people to call for any bonspiel information and to sign up yourself or a team to curl. The next big event for the Rumsey Ag society will be the Mens bonspiel starting on Jan 23 to 28. Brooks Watts and Tim Primrose will continue on as our ice men and Mary Newton and her Country Cookers crew will take care of our big catering jobs so we would like to thank them for their work because it would be extremely difficult to do the big events without them.

The Rumsey – Rowley 4-H Beef Club held their December meeting last week as well and added a food drive as part of their community work. They will be taking the donations down to the Drumheller food bank. They will be going on a feedlot tour on January 2 to Calhoun Feedlot down at Acme and then bowling in Three Hills as their Christmas party.

The Morrin High School Girls curling team headed up to Camrose this weekend for a cash bonspiel hosted by the Augustana University. Shelby Primrose, Kayla Adams, Taylor Olmstead from Delia and Amanda Holowath won all 4 games making it well worth their time to drive up there so congratulations ladies.

I will conclude my column with a famous quote from the Grinch who stole Christmas:

“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store.” “Maybe Christmas …perhaps…means a little bit more!”

Thanks Dr. Seus, you said it well once again. Have a wonderful Christmas everyone.
