The Hussar Ladies Silver & Gold Gala committee would like to report that the proceeds from the 2016 gala were donated as follows: $3000 to the Hussar Municipal Library for the new locker system and $3000 to the Friends of East Wheatland for the purchase of bleachers.
The Wheatland Crossing Grades 4-6 Christmas concert was held Wednesday, December 14 in a packed gym at 6:30 p.m. The playschool had a bake sale and Mr. Yu lead all the grades in singing Christmas carols. Some songs were instrumental as he taught the students to play the recorder. MC’s for the evening were Rori Holm, Troy Seminiuk, Lauren Jensen and Brody DeGroot. Coyote Pride merchandise was available for purchase and donations upon entrance were made to the food bank.
The next evening (December 15) the K-3 Christmas concert was held and the kids did an amazing job. Thanks to Mr. Yu for teaching the songs to sing together. Each class also had a special song, poem, rap or dance to perform. Thanks to the parents and grandparents and friends from all East Wheatland communities who took part in the festivities. Over the two evenings, over $400 was raised in monetary donations to go towards the food bank. Thank-you to everyone for their generosity.
The students of Wheatland Crossing managed to fill Mr. Latta’s office with donations for the food bank so he is going to honour his challenge and dress up like Buddy the Elf on Tuesday, December 20. On Thursday, December 22, it is the annual turkey lunch for all the staff and students. The Christmas break is December 23 - January 8 with classes resuming on January 9. Happy holidays to all the students, teachers and staff…..enjoy the break!!
On the evening of Monday, December 12, the Hussar Sundowners Seniors held their annual Christmas party at the Sundowner Centre with a turkey supper catered by Yvonne Comstock. Over $1000 was raised from the silent auction which was donated to the Hussar Special Events Committee for the July 1 celebration. Gordon Brown won the 50/50 and donated his winnings back to the Special Events committee. Thank you to Linton Treacy for entertaining the crowd on the piano!
The Hussar 4-H Multi club held their Christmas party on Monday, December 12 with a potluck supper, gift exchange and cookie decorating. The club project areas are beef, horse and sewing.
Much thanks to Einar Davidson for organizing the Hussar Fire Department Christmas Party which was a turkey supper catered by Tammy Hoff at the Hussar Hall. Einar made everyone his famous moose milk. It was a lovely evening of visiting!
On Thursday, December 14, Krista Sandum hosted a “Fill The Purse” evening which included appy’s & wine. Over 35 purses were donated which Krista is delivering to the Wheatland Crisis Society to help the women in the shelter. Thanks Krista for a wonderful night of visiting for a great cause!
The Wheatland Crossing girls basketball team played in their 2nd tournament this past Saturday travelling to Three Hills for a six team tourny. The Coyotes played hard in three challenging games with many exciting moments that entertained the spectators. The team captain, Teagan Adamcewicz, explained that this Coyote team, made up of rookies and veterans, had a lot of fun and will continue to improve with practice.
Congratulations to the Junior High boys basketball team who placed 3rd in a tourny in Drumheller at St. Anthony’s on Friday, December 16. The Hussar boys on the team are Cadin Hiebert, Dayne Collett, Dustin Holm, Emmitt Filkohazy, Jason Slemko, Kai Larsen and Tristen and Chase Fraser. Thanks to Mr. Silva and Mr. Baxter for coaching this boys team.
Condolences to family of Tom Hastie who passed away December 6 at the Foothills Hospital. The funeral was held Saturday, December 17 at the Wheatland Funeral Home with many from Hussar in attendance.
M a n y friends and family spent the evening of December 17 at the Last Chance Saloon in Wayne to help Ralph Collett celebrate his birthday! A few even stayed overnight in the legendary hotel.
Kyle & Shannon Gordon and girls, Wes Kirkpatrick and Ashley Larsen spent the weekend of December 16/17 at the Medicine Hat Lodge. They enjoyed a Medicine Hat Tigers game both nights, did some Christmas shopping and splashed in the water slides at the hotel. A great weekend with great company!
Welcome home to Shiloe Faye who has returned from regular duties as Corporal with the Armed Forces and training in Edmonton.
Rae-Ann & Robert Knudsen hosted the annual Group Party on December 16. The Sproule’s, Knudsen’s, Thew’s, Sandum’s and Kaisers have held a Christmas supper and party each year for the past 29 years. There were 34 in attendance. This year we all brought items for the Wheatland Christmas Hamper and played the saran wrap ball game to win loonies/ toonies/ lottery tickets. The group had a blast!
The Hussar Lutheran Church held their annual Christmas program at 4 pm at the church on Sunday, December 18. Everyone enjoyed those that dressed up and re-enacted the Christmas story. A lovely potluck supper followed the program.

Every ticket sold will be in for every single draw of the month. Tickets are being sold at Bow Valley Propane, Richardson Pioneer and the Village Office. Thanks in advance for all your support in this exciting fundraiser! Our Savior’s Community Lutheran Church will be holding the Christmas Eve candlelight church service at 3:30 p.m. on December 24. Everyone is welcome.
A new healthy living/ weight loss group has been formed in our community. New Beginnings will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Hussar Hall. All are welcome to attend. The focus of our group will be healthy living not just on weight loss. Please feel free to attend.
