The Hus­sar Ladies Sil­ver & Gold Gala com­mit­tee would like to re­port that the pro­ceeds from the 2016 gala were do­nated as fol­lows: $3000 to the Hus­sar Mu­nic­i­pal Li­brary for the new locker sys­tem and $3000 to the Friends of East Wheat­land for the pur­chase of bleach­ers.

The Wheat­land Cross­ing Grades 4-6 Christ­mas con­cert was held Wed­nes­day, De­cem­ber 14 in a packed gym at 6:30 p.m. The playschool had a bake sale and Mr. Yu lead all the grades in singing Christ­mas carols. Some songs were in­stru­men­tal as he taught the stu­dents to play the recorder. MC’s for the evening were Rori Holm, Troy Sem­i­niuk, Lau­ren Jensen and Brody DeG­root. Coy­ote Pride mer­chan­dise was avail­able for pur­chase and do­na­tions upon en­trance were made to the food bank.

The next evening (De­cem­ber 15) the K-3 Christ­mas con­cert was held and the kids did an amaz­ing job. Thanks to Mr. Yu for teach­ing the songs to sing to­gether. Each class also had a spe­cial song, poem, rap or dance to per­form. Thanks to the par­ents and grand­par­ents and friends from all East Wheat­land com­mu­ni­ties who took part in the fes­tiv­i­ties. Over the two evenings, over $400 was raised in mon­e­tary do­na­tions to go to­wards the food bank. Thank-you to ev­ery­one for their gen­eros­ity.

The stu­dents of Wheat­land Cross­ing man­aged to fill Mr. Latta’s of­fice with do­na­tions for the food bank so he is go­ing to honour his chal­lenge and dress up like Buddy the Elf on Tues­day, De­cem­ber 20. On Thurs­day, De­cem­ber 22, it is the an­nual turkey lunch for all the staff and stu­dents. The Christ­mas break is De­cem­ber 23 - Jan­uary 8 with classes re­sum­ing on Jan­uary 9. Happy hol­i­days to all the stu­dents, teach­ers and staff…..en­joy the break!!

On the evening of Mon­day, De­cem­ber 12, the Hus­sar Sun­down­ers Se­niors held their an­nual Christ­mas party at the Sun­downer Cen­tre with a turkey sup­per catered by Yvonne Com­stock. Over $1000 was raised from the si­lent auc­tion which was do­nated to the Hus­sar Spe­cial Events Com­mit­tee for the July 1 cel­e­bra­tion. Gor­don Brown won the 50/50 and do­nated his win­nings back to the Spe­cial Events com­mit­tee. Thank you to Lin­ton Treacy for en­ter­tain­ing the crowd on the pi­ano!

The Hus­sar 4-H Multi club held their Christ­mas party on Mon­day, De­cem­ber 12 with a potluck sup­per, gift ex­change and cookie dec­o­rat­ing. The club project ar­eas are beef, horse and sewing.

Much thanks to Ei­nar David­son for or­ga­niz­ing the Hus­sar Fire Depart­ment Christ­mas Party which was a turkey sup­per catered by Tammy Hoff at the Hus­sar Hall. Ei­nar made ev­ery­one his fa­mous moose milk. It was a lovely evening of vis­it­ing!

On Thurs­day, De­cem­ber 14, Krista San­dum hosted a “Fill The Purse” evening which in­cluded appy’s & wine. Over 35 purses were do­nated which Krista is de­liv­er­ing to the Wheat­land Cri­sis So­ci­ety to help the women in the shel­ter. Thanks Krista for a won­der­ful night of vis­it­ing for a great cause!

The Wheat­land Cross­ing girls basketball team played in their 2nd tour­na­ment this past Satur­day trav­el­ling to Three Hills for a six team tourny. The Coyotes played hard in three chal­leng­ing games with many ex­cit­ing mo­ments that en­ter­tained the spec­ta­tors. The team cap­tain, Tea­gan Adam­cewicz, ex­plained that this Coy­ote team, made up of rook­ies and vet­er­ans, had a lot of fun and will con­tinue to im­prove with prac­tice.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to the Ju­nior High boys basketball team who placed 3rd in a tourny in Drumheller at St. An­thony’s on Fri­day, De­cem­ber 16. The Hus­sar boys on the team are Cadin Hiebert, Dayne Col­lett, Dustin Holm, Em­mitt Filko­hazy, Ja­son Slemko, Kai Larsen and Tris­ten and Chase Fraser. Thanks to Mr. Silva and Mr. Bax­ter for coach­ing this boys team.

Con­do­lences to fam­ily of Tom Hastie who passed away De­cem­ber 6 at the Foothills Hos­pi­tal. The fu­neral was held Satur­day, De­cem­ber 17 at the Wheat­land Fu­neral Home with many from Hus­sar in at­ten­dance.

M a n y friends and fam­ily spent the evening of De­cem­ber 17 at the Last Chance Sa­loon in Wayne to help Ralph Col­lett cel­e­brate his birth­day! A few even stayed overnight in the leg­endary ho­tel.

Kyle & Shan­non Gor­don and girls, Wes Kirk­patrick and Ash­ley Larsen spent the week­end of De­cem­ber 16/17 at the Medicine Hat Lodge. They en­joyed a Medicine Hat Tigers game both nights, did some Christ­mas shop­ping and splashed in the wa­ter slides at the ho­tel. A great week­end with great com­pany!

Wel­come home to Shiloe Faye who has re­turned from reg­u­lar du­ties as Cor­po­ral with the Armed Forces and train­ing in Edmonton.

Rae-Ann & Robert Knud­sen hosted the an­nual Group Party on De­cem­ber 16. The Sproule’s, Knud­sen’s, Thew’s, San­dum’s and Kais­ers have held a Christ­mas sup­per and party each year for the past 29 years. There were 34 in at­ten­dance. This year we all brought items for the Wheat­land Christ­mas Ham­per and played the saran wrap ball game to win loonies/ toonies/ lot­tery tick­ets. The group had a blast!

The Hus­sar Lutheran Church held their an­nual Christ­mas pro­gram at 4 pm at the church on Sun­day, De­cem­ber 18. Ev­ery­one en­joyed those that dressed up and re-en­acted the Christ­mas story. A lovely potluck sup­per fol­lowed the pro­gram.

The Hus­sar & Dis­trict Hall Main­te­nance So­ci­ety is once again sell­ing Cash Cal­en­dar Tick­ets for the month of March 2015. Ev­ery ticket sold will be in for ev­ery sin­gle draw of the month. Tick­ets are be­ing sold at Bow Val­ley Propane, Richard­son Pi­o­neer and the Vil­lage Of­fice. Thanks in ad­vance for all your sup­port in this ex­cit­ing fundraiser! Our Sav­ior’s Com­mu­nity Lutheran Church will be hold­ing the Christ­mas Eve can­dle­light church ser­vice at 3:30 p.m. on De­cem­ber 24. Ev­ery­one is wel­come.

A new healthy liv­ing/ weight loss group has been formed in our com­mu­nity. New Be­gin­nings will meet on Wed­nes­day evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Hus­sar Hall. All are wel­come to at­tend. The fo­cus of our group will be healthy liv­ing not just on weight loss. Please feel free to at­tend.
