Morrin Community Calendar

The Drumheller Mail - - SPOTLIGHT ON BUSINESS - Darcy Graham 403-772-3747

Hope you all had a very blessed and Merry Christmas and it was a lovely White Christmas indeed! Not as good for highway travellers but I’m sure there were many happy, energetic kids who got to go sliding on the snow-covered hills.

And school is out now for a well-deserved break after finishing up with a gym packed appreciative crowd who showed up to support the annual K-6 grade Christmas concert. The children shone as always and hats off to staff for a job well done. And special thanks to piano teacher Christine Burfield, who has been coming to the school to teach half hour lessons with a number of Morrin students this year and she accompanied several groups with their musical selections. I got to pitch in with some guitar accompaniment as well but I sure like to see our piano being played again, so thanks so much Christine for your teaching ef- - SECTION A from Public Works Foreman David Benci who stated there are repairs to be made to the village backhoe and half ton. Also of interest, with the last bit of snow and ice that has come our way, you may want to pick up some ice-melt. The Morrin Lions have some good stuff for sale and the village has purchased a bag or two to scatter around town. John Neill (403-772-3847) is taking calls to help you out if you wish to get a 35 lb bag for 20 bucks... good deal ...think we may snag a bag for the winter now that the snow is falling. Also at the meeting, I noted that the Starland Regional Water Authority has been informed there will forts and for helping with the concert. Your talents are much appreciated!

And Reach worker Katie reports that the “mitten tree” was a success again this year as students readily gathered up toques, scarves, leg warmers and even a ski suit to pass on to the Salvation Army for distribution. Thanks to all the kids who shared winter clothing to help others.

Also, you will notice here, the picture of two of our Morrin School students, Malenna and Mackenna who both won awards for their winning work on the far-reaching Christmas card contest. Malenna won for her inside words “you are as unique as a snowflake”...short and sweet but such a miraculous concept when you think of how God, in His brilliant creative glory, has not made one snowflake the same as another...just like people. And Mackenna won for her lovely design and artwork entitled “baby it’s cold outside” on the outside of the card. I don’t believe the pair worked on the card together and I thought it was remarkable how they unknowingly complimented one another’s imagination. Congratulations to both girls on bagging the big prize as there were hundreds of entries that came in from 9 school districts in our PLRD divi exceptional accomplishment. Each girl received a framed picture of the completed Christmas card and $100.00 presented by school board trustee Lyle Cawiezel... so, well done, you make us proud!

And the monthly village council meeting was held last Wednesday, December 21 and I jotted down a few points to pass on. There is always the ongoing maintenance report soon be higher water rates for our areas and the village will likely have water meters installed at some point in the near future, so stay tuned for more info on that.

And lastly, the Morrin Figure Skating Club will be hosting their annual major fundraiser, and this year the club will bring “Five of Diamonds” to the Rumsey Community Hall on Saturday, February 4, 2017 for a dance party and serve up a delicious midnight lunch. This band hails from Hanna and I am told they play a broad mix of country, rock and pop music. Here is what they say about their group... “we always have fun and so does our audience”... sounds like a good time to me and you may get tickets for this event from club members.

So, if you have days off through this relaxing week between Christmas and New Years...enjoy the fleeting magic and may all your dreams come true. And as this New Year begins, I wish for all, this lovely Judeo Christian blessing...“May the Lord bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May He lift up His countenance, smile and kindness upon you and give you His peace”. Amen! So be it! Cheers!
