Happy New Year to everyone in the community! I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Christmas season with family and friends and are now ready to jump into a brand new year with lots of adventures ahead for everyone.
The Rumsey Ag Society would like to thank Robert Richmond for bringing Santa to the Christmas party just before Christmas. Considering how busy Santa is at that time of the year, Robert must have done a great job talking him into taking a bit of time to visit with all the children. The organizers of the Christmas party would also like to thank the Big Valley Elks and Royal Purple for their donations to the Christmas party making it all that much more festive. The Rumsey Ag Society held a successful New Year’s Eve dance with over 50 people attending.
It is with sadness that I have to pass on the news that Marie Hampton passed away on December 21, 2016. She was born December 22, 1929 into the Griffith family and married Dawn Hampton in July of 1951. Marie and Dawn were active members of both Rowley and Rumsey and had two children, Stanley and Neil then later two grandchildren from Stanley and his wife Wanda, Karen and Tara. Marie was also able to enjoy her 4 great-grandchildren, Morgan and Macy Block and Jayden and Cameron Vanden Pol.
The Men’s bonspiel is quickly approaching at the end of the month so if you are interested in entering a team please contact Jackie and Brooks Watts at 403-368-2357. Also, don’t forget to get your tickets for the Morrin Figure Skating Clubs fundraiser on February 4 featuring the “Five of Diamonds”; doors open at 8:00 p.m.
The December birthday club held their party on the 19 with Dariel Mc- Naughton bringing the cake. There were quite a few birthdays to celebrate for the month of December; in extended care, Edna Stennes and in the Lodge there were Ellen Jewell, Bud Nelson, Dorothy Dryer, Mary Green, Eldred Maerg and Phyllis Steinbach. Diane Meller sang and Ken Swallow played the mandolin with Shirley Smyth playing the organ. Judy Stoneman will host on January 23. I would like to send out a big thank you to the organizers and hostesses of this club for taking the time to entertain the members of the St. Mary’s lodge every month. It’s a great thing.
For those of you who haven’t made their New Year’s Eve resolutions yet, here are some to consider:
I have only one resolution. To rediscover the difference between wants and needs. May I have all I need and want all I have. And;
In 2017, may all your troubles last as long as your New Year resolutions.
Have a great week.
