It is with sad­ness that we an­nounce the pass­ing of Man­ley LaRoy Thomson of Drumheller, Al­berta beloved hus­band of Bar­bara Thomson on Jan­uary 12, 2017 at the age of 83 years. Man­ley was born on May 20, 1933 in Drumheller to Ray and Gla­dys Thomson. He spent his child­hood on the fam­ily farm east of Row­ley. Man­ley worked at the Rail­way un­til he joined the Air Forces in 1955, serv­ing un­til 1958 where he met and mar­ried Bar­bara Marsh on July 12, 1958 in London, On­tario. The fam­ily moved back to Al­berta to the fam­ily farm where they raised three chil­dren. Man­ley sold the farm and moved to Drumheller in 1978, where he worked for the Al­berta Wheat Pool. He held three dif­fer­ent po­si­tions in­clud­ing As­sis­tant Man­ager in Mun­son un­til his re­tire­ment. Man­ley was a very ac­tive mem­ber of the ELKS of Canada for the past 54 years. He was ini­ti­ated into the Big Val­ley Lodge and then trans­ferred to the Drumheller Lodge #54. Man­ley became an en­thu­si­as­tic mem­ber of the Big Coun­try Swingers Square Dance Club in 1987. He held var­i­ous po­si­tions with the club. He also was a mem­ber to the Royal Cana­dian Le­gion Branch #22 for 19 years. Man­ley was a very com­mu­nity minded man, his help was just a phone call away. Man­ley will be sadly missed by his fam­ily and a life­time of friends. Man­ley leaves to cher­ish his mem­ory, his lov­ing wife Bar­bara, one daugh­ter Ch­eryl (aka Cheri her spouse Tracy) Hoff­mann, one son Stephen Thomson, grand­chil­dren Ash­ley Hoff­mann, Kirstyn Hoff­mann, Dy­lan Kikoak, Vic­to­ria Hoff­mann, Dustin Bar­rie( Thomson), Sa­man­tha Hoff­mann, great grand­chil­dren Corbin Stone and Keilyn Stone, three sis­ters Mar­ion Per­rier, Arla Nel­son, Nor­lene (Bob) Hud­geon, sis­ter in law Kim (Paul) Fitzger­ald, one brother Or­man (Glo­ria) Thomson, brother-in-law Bill Marsh, and nu­mer­ous nieces, neph­ews and their fam­i­lies. Man­ley was pre­de­ceased by his par­ents Roy and Gla­dys Thomson, his brother Nor­ris Thomson, his sis­ter Everna Corry, and his son Ge­orge Kevin Thomson. A Ser­vice of Re­mem­brance will be held Fri­day, Jan­uary 20, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Knox United Church, 195 3rd Av­enue East, Drumheller, Al­berta with Rev­erend Heather Carl­son of­fi­ci­at­ing.
