The cold and snow we have had in recent days is part of a system which stretches across much of the lower regions of our Great White North. While some of our local beef producers have had a few early arrivals, others are well into the 2017 calving season and the weather has offered less than ideal birthing conditions but it appears that warmer weather is coming this week. Here on the prairies we claim to be able to cope with winter weather and smile with a sense of superiority when we see news clips of cars sliding out of control on Vancouver streets but in a twenty-four hour period last weekend there were 218 collisions on Calgary streets; that is one every seven minutes and includes the late night hours when traffic is light. Who’s laughing now?
A reminder that friends and neighbors of the Sandum family will be hosting a bridal shower in honour of Shayla at the community hall, beginning at 7:00 pm on Saturday, March 18. You may contact Karen McMillan for details.
Birthday greetings this week go out to four ladies formerly of Dalum. Best wishes to Sandy Sinclair (n. Merkel), Brenda Sharp (n. Petersen), Eileen Peltier (n. Jensen) and Rosemary Rosin (n. Vogstad).
With limited interest I watched bits and pieces of the first half of the fifty first Super Bowl last Sunday. Atlanta seemed to have no trouble controlling the New England Patriots so I had a big surprise when I took another look in the fourth quarter. With increased interest I then watched Tom Brady prove that he is as good as his fans say he is by delivering the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history, taking the game to overtime for the first time in Super Bowl history and becoming the only quarterback to win five NFL championships. Lady GaGa put on a good half time show and there were a few entertaining commercials (they better be good at five million dollars for a thirty second spot) but I will repeat the opinion shared by many who are not interested in football that “a real super bowl is a self-cleaning toilet”.
Valentine’s Day is next Tuesday and a good time for everyone to show those dear to you that you appreciate and care for them. And, when life’s stresses weigh heavily upon you, keep in mind the adage: “A perfect marriage is just two imperfect people who refuse to give up on each other”.
