At the Jan­uary meet­ing of the Big Valley Elks, Brother Smil­lie took the ER chair as Brother Meyer was still away, en­joy­ing a stint in Hawaii. It was re­ported that the Elks will be hav­ing a casino on April 27 and 28 and due to reg­u­lar casino hours, later night shifts will be the norm. Pre­lim­i­nary plan­ning for an en­ter­tain­ment night to be held in Novem­ber has be­gun and more de­tails will be pro­vided as de­tails be­gin to line up. The an­nual Oys­ter Feed and Past ER night will be sched­uled for March 28, so be sure to mark your cal­en­dar ac­cord­ingly.

Quin­ton Baird won the Club Draw and do­nated his share to the Chil­dren’s Fund. Club 200 win­ners were: Luke Elines, Neil Sand­berg, Pat An­nett and De­laney Lou­craft.

Fif­teen play­ers came out for crib at the Big Valley Inn on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 5. Vi McCarty took first place, Mary Wilkie took se­cond and Len Shaw took third. Stan Nat­tes­tad went home with the booby and Mary Wilkie won the reg­u­lar draw. The next crib afternoon will be on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 12 be­gin­ning at 1:00 p.m. New play­ers are al­ways welcome.

At the Big Valley Drop In Cen­tre, 8 play­ers came out for crib on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 5. First place went to Lynne Gjal­tema, se­cond to Bob Boswell, and third to Earl Ort­man with Donna Clark tak­ing booby. Drop In crib takes place every Sun­day afternoon be­gin­ning at 1:30 p.m.

Don’t for­get, the next Drop In com­mu­nity Pan­cake sup­per, sponsored by the Big Valley United Church, is sched­uled for Fe­bru­ary 28 be­gin­ning at 5:30 p.m.

The Big Valley E Free church hosts a se­nior lunch on the se­cond Mon­day of each month at noon. All se­niors are welcome. Their next lunch is on Mon­day, Fe­bru­ary 13.

The first “Still En­joy­ing Win­ter Min­gle” took place on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 4. This fam­ily friendly fun night pro­vided lo­cals a unique op­por­tu­nity to kick up their heels. The mu­sic was great, with Di­vided by J play­ing an in­ter­est­ing mix of 60s, 70s and 80s rock that en­ticed most of those at­tend­ing to the dance floor. Ka­t­rina’s Cater­ing were up to their usual stan­dards, of­fer­ing up first-rate noshes. Ev­ery­one at­tend­ing had a great time. Those who didn’t, missed out on a fun evening.
