The Drumheller Mail - - SPORTS - Marilyn Vredegoor 403-665-2473

Hello Hand Hills…She is back and she has hit us hard with lots of snow. Mother Nature made her return! Coming from someone who loves Winter it is a beautiful sight to see.

Congratulations to Scott and Heather (Moench) Campbell, on the birth of their third child. Daughter Kylee Dawn is another grandchild for Murray and Betty Ann Moench. This is grandchild number six but there are sure to be lots of hugs to go around.

Our Deepest Sympathy goes to the Families of Mary Thuroo on her passing. Tommy Owens and Mary lived in the Homestead Coulee area for many years. Mary had a garden that was the envy of many. She had a heart of gold and was a very hard worker. Mary’s two daughters had a great role model in life with Mary as their Mother. Mary has been fighting cancer for many years and that too speaks to her character. Rest in Peace Mary, your job on earth was done up just right.

This year we are celebrating Canada’s 150 Birthday and here in the Hills it is time to come up with a plan for a Celebration to mark this oc- casion. Put your thinking caps on and help us come up with a plan for a Party. We All Play for Canada is what comes to this writers mind. I have been talking a lot about how hockey is such an important event in all of our lives and my vote is for something related to this sport. We have lots of hockey talent from this area with Lanny McDonald coming to mind first but there are countless others. The Hand Hills Broncs were a mainstay in the Community. The East /West Game could be revived with an outdoor game on the Lake. Pancakes and Maple Syrup oh my mind is racing. Let’s plan something. Phone and let’s get something going to Celebrate our Life in Canada. It will take a Community to get something going but I know that we will get her done. Let’s hear your ideas!

The Annual General Meeting was well attended and although nothing much changed on the Executive it shows that people are happy with how things have been going. Layton Rosin let his name stand for President, Jacquie Galster is Vice, Laura McDonald is Secretary and Day Lenfesty is the Treasurer. New for this year is Dean McDonald, Larry McDonald and Layton Rosin who will share the duties as CPRA Rep/Rodeo Rep. Tamara Quaschnick was a new director that was added for a two year term. (I do not have the list of the other position and it is time to send this column in so I will update you later.)

The Community is going to be busy this year so be sure to check out our website for all the events.www.handhills. ab.ca Feb. 11 is the Valentines Dance and there are still tickets but you need to reserve now! If you would like to volunteer please phone Day at 403 854 0976 or Marilyn at 403 665 2473. March 10 is the Charity Sale and along with the sale you will have the chance to bid on the Best Camping Spots for the 101 Stampede, June 2,3 and 4. Phone Layton for information on how this is all going to work. 403 820 2590.

There is a Work Bee on Thursday Night at 6:30. We will be finishing the decorating, setting up the Hall and general clean up for the Valentine’s Dance. Please come down and lend a hand.

Till next week…go make a snowman, toboggan, play in the snow and get your exercise by shoveling that snow! Enjoy winter in Alberta! It won’t last forever!
