In hon­our of Canada’s 150th birth­day cel­e­bra­tions, Al­berta Prairie Railways, the Al­berta Rail­way Mu­seum and Rails and Tales 2017 will be cel­e­brat­ing the his­tory of steam rail trans­port in Canada with an eight­day ex­po­si­tion. Cur­rent part­ners in­volved in­clude Al­berta Prairie Rail­way (Stet­tler, AB), the Metis As­so­ci­a­tion of Al­berta, East Cen­tral Al­berta Her­itage So­ci­ety (Stet­tler, AB), Cana­dian North­ern So­ci­ety (Cam­rose/Big Val­ley, AB), The Vil­lage of Big Val­ley (Big Val­ley, AB), the Al­berta Rail­way Mu­seum (Ed­mon­ton, AB) and the Rocky Moun­tain Rail So­ci­ety (Cal­gary, AB).

The ex­po­si­tion, run­ning from June 28 to July 5, will be hosted in the Vil­lage of Big Val­ley and Town of Stet­tler. There will be train trips be­tween Stet­tler and Big Val­ley from June 29 to July 3 along with many ex­tra in­door and out­door dis­plays set up dur­ing this time.

As part of lo­cal prepa­ra­tions, Big Val­ley is host­ing an in­for­ma­tional meet­ing for Rails and Tales, with guest speaker Alan Wil­lis on Tues­day, Mar. 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Big Val­ley Ju­bilee Hall. All non-profit or­ga­ni­za­tions and lo­cal busi­nesses are en­cour­aged to at­tend. We are ex­pect­ing thou­sands of vis­i­tors to our vil­lage to par­tic­i­pate in these cel­e­bra­tions, so if you have any ideas of what your busi­ness or or­ga­ni­za­tion could do for this event, please at­tend.

Four­teen play­ers came out for crib at the Big Val- ley Inn on Sun­day, Feb. 12. Len Shaw took first place, Lawrence Wilkie took se­cond and Gla­dys McLeod took third. Dorothy Annable went home with the booby and Betty Bell won the reg­u­lar draw. The next crib af­ter­noon is on Sun­day, Feb. 19 be­gin­ning at 1:00 p.m.

At the Big Val­ley Drop In Cen­tre, 9 play­ers came out for crib on Sun­day, Feb. 12. Lynne Gjal­tema took first place, Ed White­side took se­cond, and Donna Clark took third with Ron Mil­ton tak­ing booby. Drop In crib takes place ev­ery Sun­day af­ter­noon at 1:30 p.m.

Re­mem­ber to mark your cal­en­dars for the next Drop In com­mu­nity Pan­cake sup­per, spon­sored by the Big Val­ley United Church tak­ing place on Feb. 28 be­gin­ning at 5:30 p.m.

The Big Val­ley His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety meets in the Train Sta­tion Mu­seum at 7:00 p.m. ev­ery third Tues­day of the month for their reg­u­lar meet­ings. Any­one in­ter­ested in the his­tory and preser­va­tion of Big Val­ley and area’s past, is wel­come to come out and see what they are all about. The next meet­ing is on Tues­day, Feb. 21.
