We are very sorry to report the passing of a former Delia resident, George Humphrey, after a long illness. Deepest sympathy to his wife, Elsie, and to all his family and many friends. Services for George will be held later in the Spring or early summer,. Sincere condolences to the family at this sad time.
I will be in Edmonton with family for a few days so will be sending this column in early. Sorry for any inconvenience if this causes anyone to miss having an event included in the column.
A few Delia seniors joined the Loran bus for a trip to the Jackpot Casino and Bower Mall in Red Deer on Wednesday. The trip was sponsored by the Morrin Seniors and included folk from Hanna and Drumheller as well. Everyone enjoyed shop- ping or gambling regardless of the minus thirty degree weather that day. Thank you Morrin, for the fun day, and thanks to the Loran’s for an enjoyable bus trip.
The February birthday party at the Delia Drop In Centre will be held Wednesday February 15, at 2 p.m., with Peggy and Pat as hostesses for the day. The pot luck dinner will be held at noon on Thursday, February 16, with a movie to follow. Crib night is the last Thursday of the month at 7 p.m., come play any card game you wish.
Remember Family Day is on Monday, February 20.
Voting for Delia to win the “Small Town Saturday Night” contest ends at midnight Wednesday -Feb. 15. A lot of rural communities are entering the contest sponsored by the Big Valley Jamboree, but Delia has as good a chance as any town. Let’s think positive. If there is still time, go online and vote!
Preschool Library visit on Wednesday, February 15, at 1 p.m., when they will be exploring the topic of friendships.
Leapfrog and Tadpole Preschool story time at the library on Tuesday, February 28 from 11 am to 12 noon. Preschool story time celebrates the joys of language and story through the use of music, puppets, picture books, storytelling and more. a great opportunity to explore literacy with your preschooler.
Jazzercise classes are at the Delia School Gym on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7 to 8 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 a.m. at the Mason Hall. No classes February 6-14. Jazzercise classes around the world, including Jazzercise Delia, will be running a Girl Force initiative for 2017. They are inviting any girls age 16 to 21 to come to classes for all of 2017 for free! Their hope is that young women learn the benefits of physical fitness from a young age which in turn can lead to building healthy habits and self esteem for a lifetime.
Delia Library Paint night is Thursday, February 16, when Laraine Hess, artist from the Canadian Badlands Artists Association, will be at the library helping participants create their own canvas. All supplies will be included in the cost. Please contact the library for more information or to register.
