Rumsey & District Register
Well, another beautiful weekend and a successful end to another curling bonspiel in Rumsey. The Ladies wrapped up this weekend with 16 teams competing through-out the week to see who would end up in the finals on Saturday. The Oyster feed was also another big success with hungry eaters coming from far and wide to enjoy that delicacy.
The winners of the 1st event were the Lorna Hodge team beating out Deena Arvidson and her curlers in a tough race to the finish. Third in the first event went to Julie Primrose and crew with 4th in the first event going to Dawn Wright’s team. The Ag society would like to thank David and Norman Silberstein for being the sponsors of this event in memory of their mother.
In the Second event, Trina MacFarlane and her crew came away with first prize leaving Jackie Friedley and her teammates with 2nd. Third and Fourth in this event went to Claire Krywcum’s team and Kim Helmer’s team respectively. We would like to thank Cheryl Richen from Ascend Financial for sponsoring this event.
In the Third event, Leah Watts’ team succeeded in taking first place with Melanie Nelson and her teammates coming away with second. Third in the Third event was won by Tina Gross and her sweepers and, lastly, fourth in the Third event went to Carolyn Schofers’ team. It was wonderful to have Realty Executives from Trochu sponsor this event. The Ag society would like to thank all the curlers who attended all week long and supported our rink for another bonspiel. The Mixed doubles will be next to hit the ice in Rumsey so be sure to book with Brooks and Jackie Watts at 403-368-2357 for this bonspiel coming Feb 23-25 and, of course the final event of the Rumsey season will be the Mixed bonspiel on March 5 to 11.
The young ladies of Morrin High School curling team would like to brag about their awesome win, bringing home Gold medals from South Central Zones. Amanda Holowath, Shelby Primrose, Taylor Olmstead and Kayla Adams can proudly add their picture to the wall of success at the curling rink. Well done, ladies. They will be on their way to Provincials on March 3 and 4. Good luck.
The boys did compete in Zones as well but fell out of favor in round robin play. Better luck next year, guys.
The Rumsey Drop-In held their first very successful Coyote Derby this past Saturday with lots of teams entering and enjoying the beautiful day out in the sunshine. We had a great supper and a door prize for every team who came that evening. We would like to thank our sponsors who supplied those door prizes; Peavey Mart, Canadian Tire, Source for Sports and ID Apparel in Stettler plus all our cooks who contributed to the meal. Also, a big thank you to Don Saar for coming to the supper and being our judge for the contest.
The 4-H Beef Club had their weigh day this past Sunday and with the beautiful weather and heavy calves coming across the scales at the Holowath Ranch things were looking pretty rosy today. The next event on their calendar will be the Public Speaking on February 19 at the Hall starting at 2:00 p.m. This is always a tough day for the kids so go and cheer them on as they perfect this life-long skill.
Good luck to all of you 4-Hers.
Have a everyone.p great week,
