Tough week­end for Dragons

While t he Dr umheller Dragons sa w sig ns of life last week, they had a tough week­end play­ing one of the top teams in the coun­try.

The Drumheller Dragons snapped the six game los­ing str eak la st Tues­day, F ebru­ary 7, b eat­ing the Olds Griz­zlys 3-1 on the road.

On Fri­day night they hosted the Brooks Ban­dits, has been hold­ing on to the na­tional top rank since Jan­uary 30.

Brooks dom­i­nated from start to fin­ish. In t he first pe­riod, the Ban­dits out­shot the Dragons 226, al­though the game re­mained score­less.

In the s econd p eriod t he onslaught b egan a s the Ban­dits scored six straight goals in t he first 14:21 of the se­cond pe­riod. Blake Kleiner scored for the Dragons late in the se­cond, but that was all they could get as the Ban­dits won 11-1.

On Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 11, the Dragons headed to Brooks hop­ing t o fare bet­ter, but it w asn’t in the cards as the Brooks Ban­dits won 6-0. W ith this, the B an­dits set a fran­chise re cord with its ninth shutout this sea­son. The Dragons have a tough sched­ule down the stretch as they face the Cal­gary Canucks on Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 14. Re­sults were not avail­able at press time and t hen on t he week­end they go back-to back with the Can­more Ea­gles in a home and away se­ries. On Mon­day Fe­bru­ary 20, Fam­ily Day, they are back in Brooks to face the Ban­dits again.

The Drumheller Dragons were outscored 17-1 over two games ver­sus the Brooks Ban­dits over the week­end.
