Delia Senior News
We are so sorry to hear that a former Delia resident, George Humphrey, has passed away in Olds. Services for George will be held on Thursday, March 2, at the Olds Evergreen Centre, at 6237 52 Street in Olds. George and Elsie lived in Delia until 1996, when they retired to Drumheller, and later to Olds. George, with his wife, Elsie, was involved in many Delia organizations, George also served on the Delia Village Council at one time. Our deepest sympathies to his wife, Elsie and to all his family and many friends. George will be sadly missed.
The February Birthday party, held at the Delia Drop In Centre on Wednesday, February 15, was attended by eleven members and friends having birthdays in January and February. Hostesses Peggy Anderson and Pat Hoover had decorated the hall in a lovely valentine theme for the occasion. Card bingo was enjoyed by the guests, the hostesses served a yummy cake for lunch. The lucky winner of the door prize was Rick Fair, who was able to take home some chocolates plus a pink teddy bear!
Spring is on the way! The much maligned starlings are back! Not the most popular bird, but they are one of the first signs of Spring – and they are early this year! Other signs of spring – the animals –horses, dogs and cats, are shedding their winter coats already. Any day now, the first robin will appear-watch for it!
Streets are still very slippery around our Village, new snow on top of the ice is hazardous. Please be careful, watch your step if you are walking, slow down if you drive.
Mark your calendars for the Elks pancake buffet on Sunday morning, March 12 from 9 to noon. Always a Sunday morning treat. Take the cook out for breakfast, there may be benefits to reap! If you aren’t there, you can’t win!
Some members of the Endiang Floor Curling Club attended a floor curling tournament in Halkirk on Thursday. Curlers from Delia who participated in the tournament were Carol and Dave Sisley and Joan Morrison.
We had a wee bit of excitement in Delia last week when the fire trucks were called out and sped down Highway 851. It turned out to be an old abandoned house on fire, luckily no one lived there, also luckily it is still winter and a lot of snow at the time, so there was no danger of a grass fire. It was a landmark on the way to town and a lot of travellers will miss seeing it, also no doubt it held a lot of happy memories for someone, of a time now past. Such a shame, cause of the fire is unknown. Someone has posted a fantastic video of the fire on Facebook, if you have a chance, do view it.
Leapfrog and Tadpole Preschool Story Time at the library on Tuesday, February 28 from 11 a.m to 12 p.m. Preschool story time celebrates the joys of language and story through the use of music, puppets, picture books, storytelling and more! A great opportunity to explore literacy with your preschooler. There are so many wonderful opportunities for small children to play and learn, wish we had something similar when my kids were at the kindergarten stage. Hope lots of parents take advantage of these opportunities.
Happy Birthday to Darryl Raugust on the 24th of February, and to Tyler Andersen on the 5th of March. Have a perfect special day!
