Rumsey & District Register
I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Michie family with the passing of George this past Tuesday. George and Linda have been a part of our community for many years living, farming, growing a family and contributing to community events in both Rumsey and Rowley for many years. It will be hard to see a mainstay such as George disappear from our social gatherings in the hall and curling rink. He will be missed by many. The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 2 at the Rumsey Hall at 2:00 p.m.
The Mixed Doubles bonspiel wrapped up this past Saturday after some long nights of curling activity in the rink. There were 32 teams of 2 entered this year so the curling went late on both Thursday and Friday night then all day Saturday but the games were enjoyed by everyone. The 1st in the 1st was won by Shelby Primrose and Justin Miller after a very close game against Betty Campbell and John Schofer. Third in the 1st event went to Mark McNaughton and Danielle Burrows with fourth in the 1st going to Tammy and David Webster. In the Second event, Diane Blanchette and Justin Wolfe came away with first spot leaving Peggy Freeman and Steve Webb with second. Third in the Second event was won by Tracey and Larry Coveney with Dawn and Barry Mason taking home 4th. In the Third event, Joanne and Rick Schinoor succeeded in taking 1st place leaving Cheryl Richen and Mitch Martin with second. Third in the Third went to Serena Michie and her dad, Ian with fourth spot going to Derek and Claire Krywcum. I have to congratulate Jackie and Brooks Watts for putting on such an excellent bonspiel and supper with beautiful prizes for everyone who participated in the event. Thank you again for all your hard work and love of the game. The next event on the Curling calendar will be the Mixed Bonspiel in March 6 - 11. If you are interested in signing up, call Brooks or Jackie to get yourself registered – 403-3682357. The curling season is rapidly coming to an end for another year and with that in mind the Ag Society will be once again auctioning off the ice spots and boards at the Mixed Bonspiel supper on Saturday night, March 11. Keep in mind if you are the winning bidder, this will guarantee you two years of advertising from one night of fun bidding.
Judy Stoneman was the hostess at St. Mary’s Lodge in Trochu this past week to celebrate February’s birthdays and there were 3 birthdays on the calendar. In Extended Care, Bessie Fraser and Elmer Wik and in the Lodge, Bernie Boyden. Thank you to Judy and the other helpers who give of their time to do this event. Bev Morgan will be the hostess on March 20.
From the mouths of babes:
Joan invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to her six-year-old daughter and said, ‘ Would you like to say the blessing?’
‘I wouldn’t know what to say,’ the girl replied.
‘Just say what you hear Mommy say,’ Joan answered.
The girl thought for a minute, then bowed her head and said, ‘Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?”
Have a great week.
