The Drumheller Mail - - AROUND TOWN - Marilyn Vredegoor 403-665-2473

Hello Hand Hills…we are brown here but reports have other areas covered in snow. Looks like we are in for a very cold 10 days! It always seems colder when there is no snow so I guess I am hoping for some of the white stuff. Bundle up and stay warm. I don’t know how this cold snap is going to affect my pussy-willows that are out on the top of my tame tree. What weird weather Mother Nature is throwing us!

Congratulations to Lochlann Hardy as he took home two trophies from the Drumheller Fish and Wildlife Awards night recently. Lochlann, his Dad Kyle and Grandparents, Randy and Sharon Hardy went fishing at Carolside Dam and Lochlann caught a 24 ½” Pike. For this he won the Biggest Catch & Release Trophy and he also won the Junior Angler of the Year, Catch & Release. Way to Go Lochlann. I think he might be hooked!

The Hand Hills sends our condolences to the Nick Marshall family on his recent passing. I think that a lot of people in the Hills will remember Nicks’ Butcher Shop, in Delia and most of us might have even made use of it. Nick, who was 89, will be missed by his family and friends. The funeral is still in the planning stages. Rest in peace Mr. Marshall.

Our granddaughter Ellie-Rae is one of the luckiest little girls. Ellie is in Grade one and as a school project, the kids go to visit the “old folks” every Monday. Ellie is paired with Charlie Fielding and for that I say she is lucky. Charlie and her have hit it off and she is soaking up everything he has to say. Charlie would have a lot to soak up with Ellie as she is a real social butterfly and maybe that is why they are getting along so great. He tells her stories and gives her little mementos that she comes home with and she relays the stories to us. So we too get the benefit. Thanks Charlie and thanks to J C Charyk for initiating this learning experience.

There is a Work Bee on Thursday at 1:00 pm. Ladies, we need help painting the wainscott (boards) and guys there is lots for you to help with like tearing down a wall, putting up ceiling tiles and wall tiles. Please plan to come on down and help.

The Charity Sale is set to go this Friday at 7. Come bid on the donated items, donate a few items and help support STARS and Kidsport.

In conjunction with the Charity Sale is the much anticipated auction of the top ten camping spots for the 2017 101st Stampede. This was initiated as a way to give everyone a change at these spots, as we receive a lot of complaints on the way the parking is handled. Hope to see you all there as we try something new!

Till next week….volunteering, donating to Charity and making things better in the Hills is on the agenda for this week and every week for that matter. Life is always busy in the Hills.
