Junior B girls Saints wrap up season
The St. Anthony’s Junior B girl’s basketball wrapped up their season on February 14, on the road taking on Delia.
This was the second time during the season the teams met. The first time the Saints were able to pull out a win. However, with a short bench, Delia came out on top the second time.
Despite this, it was a great season for the team. While many of the Grade 7 and 8 players had never played organized basketball, they all showed improvement, and all saw substantial playing time every game.
Coach Patrick Kolafa said he is proud of how the team performed.
“Every one of the girls showed growth in their skills attitude and camaraderie,” said Kolafa. “Many life lessons are learned as part of a team, and the girls showed growth athletically and personally.”
The team was evenly split with grade 7 and 8 players, which means there is a strong core of returning players to help bolster the squad next year, as well as a strong class moving up to the Junior A level next season.
This year the team hosted its own tournament, as well as played in a very competitive tournament in Three Hills. They also played exhibition games versus Wheatland Crossing as well as playing in the league with Delia and J.C. Charyk in Hanna.
The Junior B Saints girl’s basketball team finished their season on the basketball court and showed progress. They include (back; l-r) Brooklyn Crowe, Charli Calon, Alisha Peake, Piper Hauer, Tiarah Crossley and Gabriella Kolafa, with (front; l-r) Mya Ainscough, Van Nguyen, Kirsten Bixby-Weaver and Delaney McDougald. Missing are Megan Pepin, Zoe Boland, Brianne McKay, Ayesha Rehan and Emily O’Rourke.
