Greetings & Salutations! Here’s what’s new this week in the Standard Community…
This year the Alberta Fish and Game Association presented Phil Faubion with their Gerry Gibson Memorial Award. This award is presented to the club or individual that has done an outstanding job teaching outdoor education programs in Alberta. Phil spends his time every summer at the AHEIA (Alberta Hunter Education Instructors Association) camp at Alford Lake teaching kids Alberta Hunter Education and Fire Arms Safety courses. Congratulations and well done!
Several Standard firefighters attended Wheatland County’s 2nd Annual Volunteer Firefighters Appreciation Evening, an event which honors local firefighters with Years of Service awards. Special presentations were made to those with 5,10,15,25 years of service with a 40 Years of Service award presented to our own Deputy Chief Malcolm McKinnon. The Standard Volunteer Fire Association has a combined total of 235 years of service, with 1060 combined years of service county wide. Thank you to our Standard Volunteer Firefighters, our heroes who save more than homes, they save lives, hearts, memories and dreams.
Canvassing is now getting underway for the 2017 Community Chest, a registered society with the Province of Alberta. A Director will be calling for your contribution during the months of March and April, and a tax receipt will be issued. This year’s goal is to raise $25,000. When contributing, you are welcome to choose any organization on the list your Director will provide you with, or, you can provide the name of any organization you would like to donate to. Many choose the Community Chest to make their annual donations to the causes that they hold dear to their heart. Your Community Chest dollars stay as close to the local community as is possible. One cause to consider is the Standard Temporary Aid Fund, available confidentially to Community Members who are struggling due to extreme financial and/ or health issues. Thank you for your continued support of the Community Chest!
The Figure Skating Club is having their annual Carnival on Sunday March 19th. It starts at 1:00pm. They are having a raffle table, bake sale and 50/50 draw. Come out and show your support!

The Kitchen at the Standard/Rosebud Arena will be closing for the season on Sunday, March 19. The staff would like to extend their gratitude for all the support they have received during this past season, and are looking forward to returning in October to kick off the 2017 season.
The Nazareth Lutheran Church invites you to their “Soup Sunday” event on March 26 following worship, at 10:30 am. A free will offering is being taken up to support the Nazareth Church Women’s various ministries. March is the season of lent, a time for self-reflection, alms-giving, and fasting, therefore there will not be a “Son-Shine Saturday”.
