Dynos win JV Zones
The DVSS High School basketball team had a successful weekend coming home with the South Central Junior Varsity basketball 2A Zone Championship.
The team coached by James Fournier and Will Belliveau competed this season in the Golden Hills League at the senior high level and finished in third place.
When it came to the post season, rather than doing a play-in at the senior level of the South Central Zones, and because their players are only in grade 10 and 11, they opted to play at the junior varsity level.
The Zone tournament was in High River, and the Dynos faced teams from Brooks and High River. They faced Strathcona Tweedsmuir of Okotoks in the final where the Dynos won 7658.
“This weekend we played the best defense I think we have ever played,” said coach Belliveau. “They were lockdown, and that’s good to see. And the guys out there scoring, took care of business.”
He said the team has a little bit of size inside and are also able to play on the perimeter. This result shows there is potential for next season, as no players will be graduating.
“We are working a three year plan, and we are going into year two,” said Belliveau “It’s a really good start.”
The DSSS Dynos boys basketball team won the 2A Junior Varsity zone championship. Members of the team include Hayden Nicol, Marshall Johnston, Gabe Gumasing, Hunter Bitner, Evan Flater, Grier Baker, Alex Guo, Calin Schnurer, Simon Lapierre and Luis Arida. They are coached by William Belliveau and James Fournier.
