The Encana Novice Raptors wrapped up the season after a valiant effort versus Cochrane in the league championship series.

The Raptors had a strong season, and their great play continued into the postseason. In the first round, they dispatched Carstairs in two straight games. Next, they played Airdrie, and after dropping the first game of the series, bounced back to win two straight and advance to the championship round versus Cochrane.

In Game One on Saturday, March 18, Chase Mackey had three goals and Ryan Schrock had one goal and two assists, however, they weren’t able to match Cochrane’s firepower, falling 8-4. In Game two, Mackey had one goal and Maddux Pears had two, however, Cochrane won 5-3.

Coach Ryan Bitz said his team had a great season and Cochrane was a formidable opponent. “They are a top-tiered very good team,” said Bitz of Cochrane. “They played smart hockey,” he said. He said the team plays with a lot of energy. “They knew their backs were against the wall. We had adversity and the boys really battled their way back. They did it in the second series against Airdrie. With Cochrane, you just can’t let up for one minute or else you are going to pay the price.”

He adds that Goalie Brandon Williams gave the Raptors every opportunity to win the series, facing 29 shots.

He said the Raptors’ reputation was built on their work ethic.

“Every team in the league knew that, we never quit,” said Bitz.

“I am definitely proud of them, there doubt about it.” is no
