Le­gion marks Vimy Ridge Centennial

Come April 9, the Royal Cana­dian Le­gion in Drumheller will be tak­ing a mo­ment to mark the Bat­tle of Vimy Ridge.

This year Canada is cel­e­brat­ing the centennial of the Bat­tle of Vimy R idge . From April 9-12, 1917, the Cana­dian Corps batt led three di­vi­sions of the Ger­man Sixth Army. Canada lost more than 3,500 sol­diers when they took firm con­trol of the Ridge.

In the years that fol­lowed, it has been rec­og­nized as more than a bat­tle, but as a sig­nif­i­cant mo­ment as Canada came of age as a na­tion.

On April 9, a centennial cel­e­bra­tion is tak­ing place at the Cana­dian Na­tional Vimy Memo­rial in France and stu­dents from D rum - heller will be there to mark the day

In Drumheller, the Le­gion is mark­ing the centennial on Sun­day, April 9 at the Drumhell er Ceno­taph and they are invit­ing the com­mu­nity to join them on this his­toric oc­ca­sion at 1 p.m.
