Fourteen ladies from Hussar and area travelled to Drumheller to the Sunshine Lodge to visit with Annabelle Armstrong. They had planned on going on her birthday but a storm came up and they had to reschedule. A nice afternoon of visiting with her and other residents was enjoyed and they were entertained by Marcel with his guitar and singing.
Tim, Val and Jackie Sandum travelled to Montreal March 17 - 21 to visit with Nathan who is attending university there. They also enjoyed looking around McGill and the city of Montreal.
Sympathy of the community goes out to Judy and Lad Currie and the rest of the Armstrong family on the passing of her mother Muriel Armstrong on March 29. Her funeral was held in Calgary, on March 31. Muriel and her late husband, Jack, spent many, many years in the Hussar area and raised their family here.
Tracy Anderson and Lisa Armstrong would like to thank everyone who bought tickets on their curling tickets raffle. The winner was Cam Holloway, a teacher at Wheatland Crossing. This was the first fundraiser for them as a new way to raise money for Kidney March 2017. They would also like to welcome Kim Larsen to the March! Tracy and Lisa are really excited to have you Kim!
Congratulations to Brianne Hager and Patrick Corrigan who were married at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Hussar, on Sunday, March 26. In lieu of a bridal shower for Brianne there is a list at Chinook Financial where you can donate towards a gift to this young couple.
Casey, Pam, Dayne and Kali enjoyed a 9 day trip to Florida! They spent their time going to Universal, Animal Kingdom, Discovery Cove, the Blue Jays Spring Training game, Legoland, Gatorland, Medieval Feast, mini golfing and swimming at the resort. Highlights were swimming with the Dolphins, watching Gator Wrestling and the Safari!
The Bassano Outlaws Peewee Team celebrated their hockey season with their windup in Hussar having a Kids Vs Parents/Siblings Game. After the game, they enjoyed a potluck supper and visiting. Presentations were made to coaches, manager and kids. Thanks to everyone who helped make this hockey season such an enjoyable one.
Ben and Terry Armstrong enjoyed 4 days away in Moose Jaw for their 48th wedding anniversary. They had great weather and enjoyed their relaxing get away.
The Fine Arts Society is selling Stawnichy Beef Jerky as a year end fundraiser. If you are interested in ordering any beef jerky or sausage rings ask a Fine Arts Member. All orders are due April 7.
Lorne Conley had a visit from Rick and Jeannine and Cliff and Muggs Casson, brothers-in law and their wives, from Lethbridge area on Thursday, March 30.
Tom and Stacey and Don and Kay Fraser travelled to Fort McMurray March 31 - April 2 to watch Shane play hockey. They won one and lost one.
Wendell and Jodi travelled to Denver March 31 to watch Tyson Jost play his NHL debut game. Tyson’s Mom is Jodi’s first cousin, however they have been more like sisters throughout life! Laura was even one of Jodi’s bridesmaids 25 years ago Tuesday! Tyson had an incredible game and by the 2nd period he looked like he had played in that league forever! The game went into overtime and then a shootout. Tyson was given the opportunity to be 2nd shooter. Although he missed his shot, his other teammates did not and the Avalanches won! First time in 10 games. The team hopes Tyson will be the new blood that is desperately needed to get this team out of their slump. Wendell and Jodi and the rest of their family are so proud of Tyson for they have seen his hard work, dedication and true love of the game be rewarded by him realizing this dream of playing in the NHL. Watch for #27 on the Colorado Avalanche! He will do great things!
The WAA Midget team competed in provincials in Okotoks the weekend of March 30 - April 2. The Chiefs finished in 1st place in the round robin guaranteeing them a spot vs St. Albert in the gold medal game. They played St. Albert in the round robin tying them 0-0. The Chiefs started off strong with 5 goals in the first. The final score was 8-4. This is the first time ever in 25 years that the WAA has won a provincial title. Very proud parents and kids. Congratulations to Wacy Sandum who is a part of this team.
Congratulations to the Strathmore Storm Midget A Team (Cort Armstrong and Bailey Filkohazy) for winning The Yelnats Cup Midget Hockey Tournament in Cochrane this past weekend. They played in the Tier 1 division of the tournament. They are ready for a much needed break from hockey! They played 11 games in the last 10 days! Enjoy your rest boys and Congratulations again...what a great way to end the season!
Wheatland Crossing School Elementary students have enjoyed swimming lessons, some students are finished and the rest will finish this week. On March 31 the school also hosted a talent show “Wheatland Crossing’s Got Talent.” A great night was had by all that attended and were entertained by the talent of the grades 1 – 12 students. This night was also a fundraiser for the grad class who held a bake sale. Upcoming events for the school are April 13 is Jersey Day and Easter Break is the 14 – 23.
There was quite a few ladies that made their way to Bassano on April 1, for the Women’s Wellness Day. Congratulations to Lois Thompson and her table, who were the special VIPs for the day. The day was filled with lots of laughter and listening to three different key notes speakers with amazing messages of motivation.
Friends, family and neighbors are all invited to help Clifford Sanden celebrate his 100th Birthday! The party will be held on April 9 at the Travelodge in Strathmore from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. In lieu of gifts please consider making a donation to kids’ cancer.
Niels Larsen will also be celebrating a special birthday on April 9, please help him celebrate his 80th Birthday at the Hussar Sundowners from 2:00 – 5:00 pm. There will be snacks and refreshments.
New Beginnings will be hosting Zumba nights April 12 and May 10. Drum fit will be April 26. There will be a fee for the Zumba nights and also for the Drum fit night, New Beginnings is located at the Community Hall. We will have walking nights April 5, May 3, 17, 24, 31. The walking nights are subject to change. Everyone welcome to join us.
