The Drumheller Mail - - NEWS - Gerald Rasmussen 403-823-2036

The Annual General Meeting of the Dalum Fire Protection Association was held at the fire hall last Tuesday evening with twelve people in attendance. Fire Chief Albert Jensen reported on the “Fire Service Master Agreement” which is a document describing the roles and responsibilities of all the fire service stakeholders and which is being prepared by the County of Wheatland and representatives of the fire departments within the county. It has been a long process but is nearing completion and Chief Jensen was happy to report that there has been great cooperation between community and county representatives. He also praised Jim Laslo of Wheatland County for his dedication to the project and noted that the cooperation behind the scenes has led to greater camaraderie between fire departments when they work together on mutual aid calls. Mike Ostergard reported on department activity during 2016 and that included responses to 1 motor vehicle accident, 1 oil spill, 1 pet rescue, 1 smoke alarm and 1 grass fire for a total of five calls, making it the quietest year on record. It should also be noted that the Dalum fire crew volunteers its time and resources to provide traffic control for funerals held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and that service is greatly appreciated by both the grieving families and the general public. DFPA president Colin Jensen reported that the Fire Protection Association is scheduled for a casino in the first quarter of 2018 so those interested in volunteering should keep it in mind. Colin Jensen and Dwight Stockall were both re-elected for another term on the Board of Directors and in other Fire Services news, the County has imposed a fire ban which will remain in effect until the dry period known as “wildfire season” has passed.

Many hands make light work and with that in mind church council president Laurie Reiffenstein reports that the annual spring cleaning at the church is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, beginning at 9:00 am. The work is not too strenuous and the coffee break is excellent.

A reminder to those who wish to renew a Dalum Community Hall Association membership or become a member for the first time, the twenty five dollar fee may be paid at any time but if you wish to be eligible for reduced rental rates you must be paid up by the end of April. Cheques may be mailed to Dalum Community Hall Association, Box 2761. Rosedale, Ab. T0J 2V0.

The Dalum centennial organizing committee has established a bank account for the purpose of managing the costs associated with putting on the celebration with funding initially provided through donations by individuals and community organizations. The History Book Committee has been squirreling away proceeds of book sales to add to the account and encourage anyone who would like to help by purchasing a copy of “Reflections” to contact Gerald Rasmussen or Olav and Rita Pallesen.

Birthday greetings this week go out to Perry Jensen, Cliff Christensen, Arthur Christensen, Edith Woods, (n. Jacobsen), Alison Ostergard, Dayl Poulsen and Derek McMillan. Best wishes to all!
