Drumheller Chamber of Commerce Spring Expo starts Friday!

After more than 90 years, the Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce continues to be a champion for local business and the community.

The Chamber’s early roots trace back to the Drumheller and District Board of Trade in 1919. Renamed the Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce in 1968, the Chamber has always been active in promoting business, lobbying different levels of government, building partnerships and championing the local economy.

Today the Chamber is over 240 members strong and remains active in the community and the province. In 2013 it was recognized by the Alberta Chambers of Commerce as the Alberta Chamber of Commerce of the Year, the same year it hosted the province for its Annual General Meeting and Policy Session.

The Chamber offers many valuable events throughout the year, and they continue to add more to their calendar. These events range from business-focused ones such as the Business Excellence Awards Gala and Business After Hours networking events, to events serving the entire community, like the July 1st Parade. The Chamber also works to keep its members and the business community informed about workshops, seminars, and other news and events that may be of interest.

One thing that sets the Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce apart is its activism and creativity. About 16 years ago, it showed leadership with the Dino 2000 campaign to create the Worlds’ Largest Dinosaur. This attraction has become a draw for the community and the envy of other Chambers of Commerce.

The attraction was quickly paid for in full and today continues to give back to the community through the World’s Largest Dinosaur Legacy Fund. Every year it disburses thousands of dollars to local community groups to enhance and enrich economic development initiatives. These funds are raised through visits to the World’s Largest Dinosaur, and sales in the gift shop.

Since 2005, it has given back more than $550,000 to the community including a $250,000 contribution to the Badlands Community Facility.

The Chamber’s evolution continues today with the second annual Spring Expo and Trade Show. Over 50 exhibitors, from as far away as Medicine Hat and Edmonton, are at Greentree Mall, April 21-23.
