Greet­ings & Sa­lu­ta­tions! Here’s what’s new this week in the Stan­dard Com­mu­nity…

The Stan­dard Mu­nic­i­pal Li­brary would like to ex­press their ap­pre­ci­a­tion to the venders and shop­pers who made the first an­nual, Not Your Stan­dard Mar­ket, Mother’s Day Mar­ket a boom­ing suc­cess. They look for­ward to bring­ing this event to you again in the years to come.

Have you filled out your form yet? Don’t wait, just do it! Take some time and help in­stall the new play­ground at East Wheat­land School. To vol­un­teer, you must be at least 18 years old and steel toed boots may be re­quired. Here is the form to fill out to vol­un­teer: https://goo. gl/ forms/ gl6D­gyW0hNUPPRY63. This vol­un­teer project will run from 8-5 pm, May 9-12, with a pos­si­bil­ity of May 13 as well. Lunch and snacks will be pro­vided. There will be no child­care avail­able on site. Rhymes & Ba­bies a de­light­ful pro­gram brought to you by, Wheat­land Fur­ther Education. This pro­gram will con­sist of four Wed­nes­days from May 10 – May 31, from 10 – 11 am. It will be held at the Stan­dard Mu­nic­i­pal Li­brary. These free pro­grams will in­clude, rhymes, activities, sto­ries and snacks. Chil­dren will also re­ceive a small toy and book at end of the last ses­sion. To en­joy these weekly activities please call 403-934-5785 to reg­is­ter.

Did you know, each of your feet con­tains 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 120 mus­cles, lig­a­ments, ten­dons, and nerves. These all work to­gether to sup­port the weight of your body, act as shock ab­sorbers, keep you bal­anced, and push you for­ward with each stride. Foot care of­ten un­der­es­ti­mated is an im­por­tant part of your over­all health. The next foot care clinic of­fered at the Stan­dard Se­nior’s cen­ter will be on Thurs­day, May 4. Are you 50+ and need­ing to get into Cal­gary? The se­nior’s cen­ter or­ga­nizes trips into Cal­gary for shop­ping or ap­point­ments. The next trip in is on Tues­day, May 9 and the desti­na­tion is Cross Iron Mills. Here are the par­tic­u­lars; your care as­sis­tant is wel­come to join you, sign up is at the se­nior’s cen­ter by noon the Fri­day be­fore de­par­ture, mem­ber­ship is not re­quired, bus de­parts from Stan­dard at 8:15 am and leaves Cal­gary at 3 pm, re­turn. And May the 4th be with you! Star Wars Day, May the 4, cel­e­brates Star Wars that was cre­ated by Ge­orge Lu­cas. It is ob­served by fans of the movies, and the ob­ser­vance of the hol­i­day spread quickly through me­dia and grass­roots cel­e­bra­tions. The date was cho­sen for the easy pun on the catch­phrase “May the Force be with you” as “May the Fourth be with you”. Even though the hol­i­day was not ac­tu­ally cre­ated or de­clared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans across the world have cho­sen to cel­e­brate the hol­i­day.
